Jongno bakery for black sesame and squid ink milk bread: Munhwa Bakery
In short
Munhwa Bakery is a bakery on Donhwamun-ro in Jongno, Seoul, with a distinctly Korean-inspired atmosphere. I tried coffee bread, black sesame bread, squid ink condensed milk bread, and an onion bagel; the crisp onion bagel with onion cream cheese was my top pick. Verdict: Munhwa Bakery is a lovely Jongno stop for both bread and atmosphere.

Munhwa Bakery’s central Jongno location and easy access
It was so easy to find because it is right in the middle of Jongno 😆 It is perfectly situated on Donhwamun-ro, so getting there was no trouble at all 👍 After getting off the subway, it was just a short walk before it came into view, so I did not get lost 🚶♀️✨ It was a bakery with a distinctly Korean charm.

There is plenty to see nearby, so it would be great for a date too 💕 The location suits Jongno’s particular atmosphere so well 😊 Just follow the map and it takes you right to the front, so first-time visitors need not worry 📍
A cozy atmosphere with traditional touches

The exterior alone had such a great mood 🤎 It felt like an atmospheric bakery with a hint of traditional style, which made it even more appealing. Inside, the warm lighting made it genuinely cozy 🕯️ The bread display was neat too, so it was fun just to look at 😍 There was a wait on the weekend, but it was managed orderly, so I got in quickly! That delicious smell was impossible to resist.
The breads I tried at Munhwa Bakery

Coffee bread
It was my first time trying coffee bread, and it was truly memorable ☕ The outside was soft and fluffy while the inside was moist 🤎 A subtle coffee aroma spread through it, and I liked that it did not taste artificial. It was not overly sweet, so I kept reaching for more 😆 It was absolutely perfect with coffee.

Black sesame bread
The black sesame bread had such a strong nutty flavor 🖤 The aroma of black sesame hit right away with the first bite. The filling was soft and rich, which made it very satisfying 😊 It was nutty with a slight sweetness, so I did not get tired of it. Anyone who loves black sesame would definitely enjoy this one 👍

Squid ink condensed milk bread
The squid ink condensed milk bread caught my eye from the start 🖤✨ It has condensed milk cream inside the black bread, and the combination was much better than I expected. The condensed milk is sweet, but with the bread the balance was just right 😍 It was chewy yet soft, so I kept reaching for it. If you like sweet treats, this is a must-try.
Onion bagel
This was my number-one pick 🥹 The outside was wonderfully crisp, and the onion cream cheese inside was incredible.
Considering this level of freshness and quality, I felt the prices offered amazing value 👍
Breads made with Korean-inspired ingredients
This was not simply a bakery; it was a place where you could enjoy the atmosphere too 😊

Every menu item had its own character, making the choice fun 😆 There were especially many breads using Korean-inspired ingredients, which made the bakery feel even more special 🇰🇷

A bakery I want to revisit alone or with friends
Overall, I was extremely satisfied 😍 The bread was delicious and the atmosphere was lovely, so I think I will remember this place for a long time. It would be nice to visit alone or with friends 😊 I especially think the coffee bread and black sesame bread will stay on my mind 🤎 When I am in Jongno again, I plan to stop by. I would recommend it as a place to spend some relaxed time 💛

I especially, especially recommend the onion bagel 🥹
