Jongno bakery for peanut and walnut bread: Munhwa Bakery
In short
Munhwa Bakery is a takeaway bakery in Jongno, Seoul, near Jongno 3-ga Station. I repurchased the ₩3,800 peanut bread, ₩3,500 walnut bread, and ₩5,800 rice chestnut loaf after thinking about them for months. Verdict: an affordable, delicious stop for bread during an Ikseon-dong outing.

Overnight, the weather completely shifted into autumn. When autumn comes around~ there are just so many things I start craving.
A few days ago, my husband said, “You know that bread we had in Ikseon-dong... the peanut bread~~” So we went back to Munhwa Bakery (문화제빵), the popular bakery in Ikseon-dong near Jongno 3-ga, to buy that bread we were still thinking about months later.
Munhwa Bakery location and visitor information
After getting off at Jongno 3-ga Station and walking a little, you will spot Munhwa Bakery, a popular bakery in Ikseon-dong. Its concept suits its name so well that it really stands out even from a distance. As I walked there, the people walking ahead of me all went straight into Munhwa Bakery.

All breads and prices at Munhwa Bakery
Munhwa Bakery does not have a space for eating inside. It is a bakery, not a café, so it does not sell drinks.
There are not an enormous number of varieties, but every bread tastes so good that it seems to have lots of regulars and a big reputation as an Ikseon-dong bakery.
The bread menu had not changed much from my last visit. Munhwa Bakery, one of Jongno Ikseon-dong’s signature bakery-hopping stops, also has kind prices. I happened to be the only customer, so I photographed every single bread on sale without leaving anything out.
- Rice chestnut loaf ₩5,800
- Rice cheese loaf ₩5,900
- Maple cream cheese bread ₩4,900
- Sweet potato bread ₩3,800
- White bean paste bread ₩3,800
- Walnut bread ₩3,500

As you can see in the photo, there is a coffee bread so long it is hard to judge its length, ₩5,800, and Munhwa Bakery’s signature garlic bread, ₩6,800.

- Injeolmi bread ₩3,800
- Peanut bread ₩3,800
- Mugwort rice cake chewy bread ₩5,700

- Black sesame bread ₩3,800
- Milk cream bread ₩3,500
- Cheese bread ₩5,400
- Squid ink condensed milk bread ₩4,500

An onion bagel, ₩6,000, large enough for two people to eat.

On weekends or when there are many customers, they ask people to enter two parties at a time. I picked three breads, and the bag already felt satisfyingly heavy.
They are not flashy breads on the outside, but the bread itself is delicious—the kind of flavor that reminds me of bread I ate as a child.

Rice chestnut loaf, walnut bread, and peanut bread picked again
- Rice chestnut loaf
- Walnut bread
- Peanut bread
I picked exactly the same breads as last time—100% in sync. I kept thinking about the breads I had eaten, so I chose the same ones again to check whether my memory had been distorted~~

Peanut bread for peanut lovers
Munhwa Bakery has its representative garlic bread, onion bagel, and coffee bread~~ but my number-one pick at Munhwa Bakery is the peanut bread. I love anything with peanuts anyway, but from the crushed peanuts covering the top to the peanut jam inside the bread—

It is peanut bread that peanut lovers would absolutely fall for.

Sweet and nutty walnut bread
This is Munhwa Bakery’s walnut bread, priced at ₩3,500. For such an affordable price, the quality feels at least twice as good. It is covered in walnuts, and the sweetness and nuttiness are no joke. Honestly, on this day, this walnut bread tasted just a little better than the peanut bread.

Rice chestnut loaf with a great texture
This is the rice chestnut loaf. It is a rice-flour bread I recommend to anyone looking for bread with rice flour at Munhwa Bakery, with chestnuts dotted throughout. It is not a chestnut bread that spills over with chestnuts, but this bread is all about its crumb and texture. Even without the chestnuts, if you casually pull apart the loaf and eat it, half of it will already be gone before you know it.

If you are out and about in Ikseon-dong or Jongno on a lovely day, stop by and you can take away bread that is great value and tastes even better.
