Jung-dong, Bucheon: pick-your-spice jjamppong at Jjambbong Jijon

In short

Jjambbong Jijon Bucheon Jung-dong Branch is a 66-seat Chinese restaurant on Jungdong-ro in Wonmi-gu, Bucheon, Gyeonggi. The Jijon jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) lets you pick your spice level, and it came at Shin Ramyun heat alongside Jijon jjajang (black bean noodles), shrimp fried rice, Jijon sweet and sour pork and fried jjamppong dumplings. The shrimp fried rice was fine but light on wok smokiness, while the jjamppong broth and the jjajangmyeon at Jjambbong Jijon are the two dishes worth ordering.

I went to Jjambbong Jijon Bucheon Jung-dong Branch, a jjamppong spot in Jungdong known as a Sinjungdong favorite. It's famous for jjamppong and jjajangmyeon, so I was really looking forward to how spicy and delicious it would be. People kept streaming in and there's parking too — this is a Bucheon Jungdong spot worth reviewing, here we go!!!!

66 seats and an open kitchen: solo meals or group dinners

The interior of Jjambbong Jijon Bucheon Jung-dong Branch stands out for its clean design, and the hall seats up to 66. Chinese restaurants can sometimes feel a bit dated, but this one has earned the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety's 'Excellent' hygiene grade, so they're genuinely serious about cleanliness!

There's an open kitchen where you can watch the cooking from a distance, so seeing the food being made firsthand was really reassuring in terms of cleanliness!!! Free self-serve bar: side dishes, rice, coffee and drinks

There's also a large self-serve bar inside the restaurant with unlimited free side dishes, rice, coffee, and drinks. Extra rice normally costs a thousand won, but it's on the house here — great value for a Bucheon Jungdong spot. The self-serve bar even has aprons and hair ties, a thoughtful touch that makes dining easy, especially for women.

How the jjamppong spice levels work (I chose Shin Ramyun heat)

We ordered Jijon Jjamppong, Jijon Jjajang, shrimp fried rice, and Jijon sweet and sour pork. Jjambbong Jijon Bucheon Jung-dong Branch lets you choose the spice level of the jjamppong, so if you're proud of your spice tolerance, go for the spiciest option. I'm a spice wimp, so I picked something around Shin Ramyun heat. The jjajangmyeon also lets you choose spice level!!!

Jijon sweet and sour pork: old-school Chinese restaurant style

I was torn between the regular sweet and sour pork and the sticky rice version, but went with the safer regular Jijon sweet and sour pork — and it tasted like classic old-school Chinese restaurant sweet and sour pork... Crispy and delicious, and since I asked for the sauce on the side, it stayed crispy for a long time. The regular version was already good, so I can only imagine how good the sticky rice one is... haha

Fried jjamppong dumplings: a spicy side worth trying

Crispy outside, moist inside — the fried jjamppong dumplings. I'd only had regular fried dumplings before, so dumplings with that spicy jjamppong-like flavor were a novel and delicious surprise... I want more already.

Shrimp fried rice: big portion, mild on wok flavor

Jjambbong Jijon Bucheon Jung-dong Branch has two fried rice options — crab meat or shrimp — and I tried the shrimp version! Fluffy, grain-separated, like typical shrimp fried rice. Not much smoky wok flavor, but it tasted solid and satisfying. The portion is seriously huge haha

Jijon jjajang: chewy hand-pulled-style noodles

Jjajangmyeon really is best here. Wow, so delicious, the noodles had that satisfying slurpy, chewy texture, and the black bean sauce was well made too. Haha, it's the most classic Chinese restaurant dish, but somehow it's this good — I want it again already.

What does the Jijon jjamppong broth taste like?

The Jijon jjamppong has seafood, vegetables, and meat all in it, and the broth is next level, haha. Wow, instant hangover cure, and it makes you crave soju at the same time — kind of a two-in-one flavor. Jjamppong happens to be my favorite Chinese restaurant dish? I really care about spicy, deep broth flavor, and I could immediately tell why people say Jjambbong Jijon's jjamppong is the best! Generous portion, and both the broth and the ingredients were delicious. Even the Shin Ramyun spice level was hearty and spicy, so if you love spicy food, going up to Buldak level heat might be worth it :)

Is Jjambbong Jijon Bucheon Jung-dong Branch worth a visit?

A clean, comfortable Sinjungdong spot with easy parking. I highly recommend the jjamppong and jjajangmyeon, the fried rice is solid, and make sure to order the sticky rice sweet and sour pork.
