Have you ever ordered sujebi (hand-torn dough flakes) instead of noodles at a jjamppong place?

What is the dining room like inside Jjambbong Jijon?

Jjambbong Jijon Bucheon Jung-dong Branch has a pretty spacious dining hall. The tables aren't cramped and the overall atmosphere is comfortable.

While we ate, delivery orders kept coming in nonstop. With both dine-in customers and steady delivery traffic, it's clearly a popular Bucheon restaurant in the neighborhood.

Unlimited black rice plus free drinks and coffee

You order through the kiosk on the table. One thing I personally loved was the free black rice. There's a jjamppong rice option on the menu too, but since you can get rice for free, I'd recommend ordering the noodle or sujebi jjamppong instead — eat the toppings and noodles first, then mix in a bit of rice at the end.

Free black rice provided at the restaurant

Noodles, then sujebi, then finally jjamppong rice at the end. On top of the black rice, drinks and coffee are free too.

A free cup of coffee

After Chinese food your mouth can feel a bit greasy or spicy, so it's nice not having to order a drink separately. Finish the meal off with a cup of coffee.

All these little free extras add up, and the overall value for money felt pretty great.

There were too many customers to get a full shot of the space, but it's a comfortable, spacious restaurant.

How does the sujebi jjamppong (hand-torn noodle soup) taste?

We ordered Jijon jjajang, sujebi jjamppong, sticky rice sweet and sour pork, fried mandu, crab fried rice, and shrimp fried rice. The sujebi jjamppong was the most memorable dish — jjamppong with sujebi instead of noodles. Turns out it works really well together.

The sujebi isn't thin and slippery — it's thick and chewy. Proper bite to it.

The spicy jjamppong broth clings to the sujebi, giving it a different charm from noodle jjamppong. There's a generous amount of cockles too. It's fun to pick them out one by one, and the briny sweetness from the seafood made the broth feel even richer.

We ordered it at about 1.5 times Shin Ramyun spice level, and you really get that smoky wok-fired flavor along with the spicy, sharp kick. Still, the spice doesn't overpower everything else. If you like a hearty spicy broth, give the sujebi jjamppong a try.

Sticky rice sweet and sour pork and fried mandu

Our family is firmly Team Sticky Rice Sweet and Sour Pork.

Regular sweet and sour pork is good too, but we love that distinctive chewy texture sticky rice gives.

Jjambbong Jijon's sticky rice sweet and sour pork also has that appealing chewy batter.

The meat is clean-tasting and the batter is chewy enough that you keep reaching for more.

There's fried sweet potato mixed in too, which is also a nice surprise!!

My niece wanted some, so we ordered fried mandu separately.

Separately ordered fried mandu

But then we also got the fried jjamppong mandu from the Naver reservation perk, so we ended up with a mandu bonanza.

Looking at the amount, I wondered if we could really finish it all — turned out to be an unnecessary worry. My niece polished it off and even asked to pack more to go. At this rate we're basically filming Oldboy.

Jijon jjajangmyeon, extra-large portion

We ordered the jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles) in both spicy and mild versions.

I liked that the sweetness wasn't overdone. The jjajang sauce has plenty of savory depth, but the sugar doesn't come on too strong, so it's easy to eat all the way through.

Savory jjajang sauce and noodles

We ordered the large portion, and it really was generous. With free black rice on top of a large jjajangmyeon... getting full was pretty much guaranteed.

Crab fried rice and shrimp fried rice

For fried rice, we ordered both the crab and shrimp versions.

The crab fried rice has a slightly spicy kick. Not too spicy though, so nothing overwhelming.

It doesn't just show up as plain fried rice either — it comes with jjajang sauce and jjamppong broth on the side. Exactly the kind of lineup you want with Chinese-style fried rice.
