Seocho gimbap restaurant for after-work chicken sets: Halls

In short

Halls Gimbap Main Branch is a gimbap restaurant near Gyodae Station in Seocho, Seoul. After work, I had double-cheese egg, Spam, and wasabi gimbap with a dakgangjeong set. My verdict: the double-cheese egg gimbap was the clear winner.

I was wondering what to have for dinner before going to the hospital after work, when I heard that the Otto Gimbap I used to love had changed its name to Halls Gimbap Main Branch, so I went back for the first time in a while! If you are looking for a solo meal near Gyodae Station, you have probably heard of it at least once. It is a gimbap place with lots of office-worker regulars, so go with confidenceee.

A solo-dining gimbap spot near Gyodae Station Exit 1

Halls Gimbap Main Branch is near Exit 1 of Gyodae Station, close to McDonald's. It is a quick walk from the station, so it is conveniently located for anyone looking for good gimbap in Seocho and Gyodae. Working late or coming in on the weekend is sad, but ,,,,, you still have to eat something delicious. When you need to eat quickly and get back to work, nothing beats gimbap.

The atmosphere

Haha.

This spot used to operate as Otto Gimbap Seocho and has started afresh as Halls Gimbap Main Branch, but apparently the owner, the aunties making the gimbap, the counter staff, and even the staff member in charge of the dakgangjeong (sweet-spicy fried chicken) are all still here!! If you liked Otto Gimbap when it was all the rage, I think you should try Halls Gimbap.

Notice about the name change at Halls Gimbap Main Branch

Apparently, this is the reason,,,,, 🥲 They even had hair ties!!

Cup noodles and hot-water station

The shop was bright overall, with soup, hot water for cup noodles, and a tray-return area along the side. They also had a wide variety of cup noodles, so it looked great for making a filling meal. Basically convenience-store level ,,,,,

The seating was arranged for comfortable solo dining, and there were also tables for two to four people, so it works easily even if you come with company.

You order at the kiosk. When I visited in the evening, there were office workers and students eating alone, and delivery orders just kept coming in. A meal for office workers working late, right,,,,,? There is a reason this place has been famous with Gyodae office workers for eight years,,

I think their protein tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) is also part of why they are known as a diet-friendly spot near Gyodae Station. I need to have this next time.

A great Gyodae lunch and dinner spot

The visuals are amazing, right ,,,, It was such a satisfying choice.

Meal with several kinds of gimbap

A gimbap-rich person is a happy person. I will leave my gimbap ranking below. (Subjective.)

The cheese in the cheese gimbap was melted to just the right softness, and it went beautifully with the egg omelet. One bite fills your mouth with cheese and egg,,, aww, it makes me happy,,,, a light for Gyodae office workers,,,

Spam gimbap made with blanched Spam
Spam gimbap

Maybe because it had been blanched in water first, the Spam was not salty and tasted clean.

Wasabi gimbap with cucumber and fish cake
Wasabi gimbap

The wasabi gimbap was less spicy than expected, and the crunchy cucumber gave it an overall fresh taste. It has fish cake in it too!!

Flower-like gimbap end piece
Maybe the name of gimbap is flower

The end pieces look pretty like flowers, right,,,,, The end pieces are seriously delicious.

Gimbap served with Cheongyang chili peppers

The Cheongyang chili peppers that came with the dakgangjeong are delicious placed on top of the gimbap too,,,, 🖤

Tender, juicy chicken-thigh dakgangjeong

Is Halls Gimbap actually a dakgangjeong specialist,,,? I am totally serious. The color is so lovely and the flavor is beautiful. Want dakgangjeong in Gyodae? Go straight to Halls Gimbap,,

Chicken-thigh dakgangjeong set

They say the dakgangjeong uses Korean chicken thigh meat, and after actually trying it, it was the definition of tender and juicy,, seriously, the juices were alive and the batter was fried thin. The sauce was a classic sweet-and-spicy style, making it especially good with the set. Get the set, no matter what!!!!!!!!!!! I completely understand why they also sell it on its own. I should have added more Cheongyang peppers,,,,🖤

My personal gimbap ranking

  • Double-cheese egg gimbap
  • Wasabi gimbap
  • Spam gimbap

Next time, I want to try the tuna, konjac-and-water-parsley, and green-onion options too. The double-cheese egg gimbap is number one among all the cheese gimbap I have had so far. Hehe, you absolutely have to try it 🍳
