Seocho gimbap restaurant with half-and-half rolls: Halls

In short

Halls Gimbap Main Branch is a gimbap restaurant near Gyodae Station in Seocho, Seoul. After financial planning with my fiancé, we took home a Halls and Double Cheese half-and-half gimbap plus small crispy chicken. Verdict: a clean-tasting takeout spot I’d happily revisit for fresh-fried chicken and two gimbap flavors.

Halls Gimbap Main Branch (홀스김밥본점), a great gimbap spot near Gyodae Station in Seocho, was where we stopped after my fiancé and I had financial planning! It’s a snack-food restaurant near the station, and apparently the owner of the well-known franchise Ot Gimbap created Halls Gimbap as a new brand.

Halls Gimbap Main Branch near Gyodae Station: visitor information

There were lots of customers, from delivery and group orders to people dining in. What impressed me most was that parking is available for a snack-food place in the Gangnam business district. You can briefly stop in front of the shop for takeout, and there is also parking for one or two cars in the building.

It is open Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is closed every Sunday.

The shop was professionally pest-controlled by CESCO and is also certified for safe packaging. Various local payment options, including livelihood-recovery consumer coupons, high-fuel-price relief funds, and ZeroPay, are accepted.

Ordering everything from gimbap to crispy chicken

They sell gimbap, crispy chicken, sets, and tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), along with easy meal options such as cup noodles and drinks that go well with them. You can order at the kiosk.

There were window seats that would be lovely for eating alone on a rainy day, single bar seats, and tables for four. They were also packing boxed crispy-chicken-and-gimbap sets for group orders. With so many office workers nearby, I hear it is popular for Gyodae Station workers’ lunches, takeout, and snacks too.

Katsuobushi broth to enjoy while dining in

And there was even additive-free katsuobushi (dried bonito) broth! It is difficult to provide with takeout, but you can have unlimited refills when dining in. I tried it, and even without additives, it was incredibly savory and so delicious.

They cook the egg omelet strips and fish cake in high-quality olive oil, and use muscovado raw sugar and unrefined cane sugar rather than refined sugar. The crispy chicken is cooked in Sempio cooking oil.

Especially since the crispy chicken uses fresh refrigerated Korean chicken thigh meat prepared early that same morning, it felt like this Gyodae gimbap and snack-food spot does not skimp on ingredients.

Taking home half-and-half gimbap and a small crispy chicken

The gimbap had a half-and-half option, so you could try two flavors. If you upgrade to a set, you can have crispy chicken with your gimbap too, making it a good value.

There were directly managed branches in Bulgwang and Hoegi. Hoegi is close to our office too, so I said we should have it next time we work late!

We ordered the Halls + Double Cheese half-and-half gimbap on its own, plus a small crispy chicken. Thanks to the group customers ahead of us, we waited briefly and received chicken that had just been fried. They gave it to us with the container open, so it would not go soggy when closed.

How the Halls and Double Cheese gimbap tasted

The Halls Gimbap had fish cake inside its egg omelet strips and a slightly higher proportion of vegetables. The carrot, cucumber, and danmuji (pickled radish) were all finely julienned, which made it feel even more carefully made.

The Double Cheese Gimbap had more egg omelet strips, wrapped in cheddar cheese. It was fluffy, while the rich cheese flavor really clung to the palate—so good. The thin layer of black-rice rice also made it perfect as a healthy meal.

I paired the crispy chicken with a quick salad using vegetables I had at home. When serving it as a children’s snack too, I think adding a simple salad or fruit like this would make it easy to cover carbs, protein, fat, and vitamins.

Fresh refrigerated Korean chicken thigh meat, fried to order—how could this crispy chicken not be tasty! The meat was tender, the sauce was not overly salty, and the coating stayed crispy; it was chicken I wanted to eat again. If you are looking for a great Gyodae gimbap spot or a wholesome snack, I think you should visit Halls Gimbap Main Branch, where you can enjoy Korean crispy chicken alongside healthy, delicious gimbap. The ingredients felt wholesome and the flavors were clean, making it a Gyodae gimbap spot I want to revisit.
