Korean BBQ near Gyodae Station with a reserved window seat: Sodangkkae

In short

Sodangkkae O-gyeopjip Gyodae Main Branch is a cauldron-lid grill Korean BBQ restaurant on the 2nd floor of the food alley by Exit 14 of Gyodae Station in Seocho, Seoul. A Naver Place reservation meant two diners were seated straight away at a window table, where they ordered the 81,500 won meat platter set for two (pork belly, pork neck and pork jowl) with han-don (Korean pork) kimchi jjigae as the set stew, plus yukhoe (raw beef tartare). Staff grilled every cut from start to finish, so even a party of two could enjoy a full group-dinner course at Sodangkkae O-gyeopjip.

I visited Sodangkkae O-gyeopjip, a Korean BBQ spot near Gyodae Station where staff grill thick han-don (Korean pork) pork belly on a huge cauldron-lid grill from start to finish. I'd reserved ahead through Naver, and the dining hall turned out to be spacious with plenty of room between tables — perfect for a group get-together. Two of us dug into the meat platter set with a spicy kimchi jjigae and fresh yukhoe (raw beef tartare), and here's my honest review. (Visited September 13, 2026)

Coming out of Exit 14 of Gyodae Station and walking about 3 minutes into the food alley, I spotted the Sodangkkae O-gyeopjip sign right away. A big, clean signboard on the building's first-floor exterior made it easy to find even on a first visit. The restaurant itself is on the 2nd floor, reached by the central staircase, which leads straight to the entrance. Near the stairs was a standing banner with the Naver reservation info and a clear breakdown of the signature menu and prices — handy for checking cuts and set options before heading up.

As the sign suggested, the location right in the middle of the Gyodae Station food alley made it very accessible, and easy to time for a post-break-time dinner. After a quick look at the exterior and stairs, I headed up to the 2nd floor at my reserved time.

The spacious 2nd-floor hall and group dinner seating

Walking into the 2nd floor, the open central hall made a great first impression. What stood out most was the generous spacing between tables — seats weren't cramped together, so you could chat with your group without worrying about neighboring tables. The tables themselves were large too, with tidy group seating for several people alongside standard 4-person tables, making it a solid choice for office dinners near Gyodae Station.

Since I'd reserved through Naver, a nice window-side table was ready right away, so we sat down without any wait — a great feeling. Each table had a gleaming, large cast-iron cauldron-lid grill set right in the center, which instantly built trust in the meat quality just by looking at it. Best of all, every table had a strong ventilation hood, so the grilling smoke never filled the room and the air stayed pleasantly clean. With the roomy space and easy flow, I was convinced it was ideal for gatherings and group dinners.

After glancing at the menu, we immediately ordered the meat platter set (2 people), the most sensible choice for two. Priced at ₩81,500, it came with thick han-don pork belly, neck and jowl, plus a hearty stew and fresh yukhoe all in one go. Compared to ordering individual cuts, it was much better value, and getting a full course with yukhoe and stew included made the price-to-satisfaction ratio really high.

The stew included in the set was especially nice since you could choose between a refreshing crab doenjang jjigae and a spicy han-don kimchi jjigae based on your taste. We were craving something rich and spicy, so we went with the kimchi jjigae.

As soon as we ordered, fresh lettuce, crisp scallion salad and various special sauces and pickled sides were quickly laid out on the table. Then came the meat platter, with pork belly, thick-cut neck meat and evenly marbled jowl arranged beautifully. The han-don kimchi jjigae arrived bubbling in an earthenware pot, generously loaded with big chunks of pork and tofu — a hearty sight on its own. Looking at the neat spread, my anticipation for the meal really built up.

Pork grilled by staff on the cauldron-lid grill

The biggest highlight here is that a dedicated staff member grills everything from start to finish, so we could just relax, chat, and eat — genuinely convenient. Once the large cauldron-lid grill was hot, they rubbed it down with a piece of fat to coat it, then laid on the thick-cut pork belly and neck meat right away. With a sizzling sound, the meat browned beautifully, and thanks to the staff's clear grilling skill, not a drop of juice escaped from the thick cuts.

They flipped the meat at just the right moments and even cut it into bite-sized pieces with scissors, so we could focus entirely on conversation while waiting. Dipping a piece of finished pork belly lightly in sea salt, the skin side was chewy yet crisp, and biting in released a burst of savory juice — truly excellent. The thick neck meat was surprisingly tender with no dryness, and the jowl had that signature crunchy texture with a rich, savory fat flavor filling the mouth. Enjoying perfectly grilled meat without lifting a finger made for a very satisfying meal.

Minari water dropwort on the cauldron lid and fresh yukhoe

As the meat was nearly done, the staff piled fresh water dropwort, crunchy bean sprouts, king oyster mushrooms and aged kimchi onto the oily edge of the cauldron-lid grill to cook together. As the vegetables sizzled in the rendered pork fat, the fresh, fragrant scent of the water dropwort was a pleasant hit to the senses. Pairing the well-cooked vegetables generously with the browned meat cut through any greasiness, so it never got tiring. My favorite combo was wrapping the fragrant water dropwort and chewy mushrooms — fried crisp in pork fat — around a piece of pork belly for one big bite.

While deep in the meat, the yukhoe from the set arrived. It came with a fresh egg yolk, so I mixed it in and took a bite. The chewy texture combined with a subtle savory seasoning was a great palate-refresher in between bites of meat. The sweet, savory flavor characteristic of yukhoe was completely captivating.

The han-don kimchi jjigae, generously filled in the earthenware pot, had a spicy, deep broth with well-fermented kimchi and thick pork that made me crave a bowl of rice. The spicy yet savory broth cleanly washed away the richness of the grilled meat. The browned meat, fragrant vegetables, sweet yukhoe and hearty kimchi jjigae all came together in harmony with deep, savory flavor. The pairing of the abundant side dishes with the main meat was excellent.

Honest verdict on Sodangkkae O-gyeopjip for a Gyodae Station group dinner

We finished off the meat, water dropwort and mushrooms off the grill, along with the kimchi jjigae and yukhoe, leaving everything spotless and feeling very satisfied. With just one meat platter set for two, the portion was generous and came with stew and yukhoe like a full course — we left with full, happy stomachs. Since staff were assigned to each table and grilled everything carefully, there was no worry about burning the meat, and our clothes barely picked up any smell, making for a relaxed meal from start to finish.

If you're looking for a proper samgyeopsal or o-gyeopsal spot near Gyodae Station, or a comfortable place for a group dinner where staff grill everything for you, Sodangkkae O-gyeopjip Gyodae Main Branch is guaranteed to satisfy. With its generous portions, great value and attentive grilling service, this is definitely a place I'd want to return to for my next office dinner or friend gathering.
