Gyodae Korean BBQ dinner with crab miso stew and fried rice

In short

Sodangkkae O-gyeopjip Gyodae Main Branch is a cauldron-lid Korean BBQ restaurant on the 2nd floor of the Gyodae Station food alley in Seocho, Seoul. After work, the writer and her husband ordered the Sodangkkae combo set for two (pork belly, pork neck, pork jowl) with crab miso stew and yukhoe (raw beef tartare), finishing with fried rice made from the leftover side vegetables. Staff grilled everything piece by piece and kept adding vegetables at no extra charge, making it an easy, comfortable spot for two.

After work, my husband and I went to Sodangkkae O-gyeopjip near Gyodae Station! It's on the 2nd floor inside the Gyodae Station food alley building.

You go up to the 2nd floor via the stairs on the right side of the building and get shown to a seat. *They also run a lunch special, so a lot of office workers around Gyodae come here — because the stews here are the real deal.

Since we made a reservation, they had the table all set up ahead of time. It felt so nice being welcomed with such a clean, ready setup haha

* If you book a reservation before visiting, you also get a coupon — good to use

Order from the kiosk, and corkage is free

You can browse the menu comfortably at your table on the kiosk with pictures, and corkage is completely free! We ordered the Sodangkkae combo set for two (includes stew and yukhoe) — a mix of pork belly, pork neck, and pork jowl!

A full table of side dishes including green onion kimchi

The side dishes are laid out, and that well-fermented green onion kimchi is such a highlight! Wrapping it with the well-cooked Korean pork is pure honey.

The pork belly, pork neck, and pork jowl are different in texture from the start haha. Staff grill them piece by piece perfectly on the well-seasoned cauldron-lid grill.

They generously piled on minari (water dropwort), kkwari-gochu (shishito-like peppers), bracken fern, seasoned bean sprouts, mushrooms, and more. For someone who loves enjoying sides along with the meat, a place that adds vegetables like this with no extra charge is truly precious... ❤️❤️❤️

Sizzle sizzle... just writing this makes me drool ^ㅠ^

For the set stew, we picked crab doenjang stew

The combo set lets you choose between doenjang stew and kimchi stew, and we picked the doenjang because we wanted the spicy, savory crab version!!! On a previous visit I had the kimchi stew, which was packed with meat and amazing with a bowl of rice. They also offer kimchi stew and doenjang stew as lunch specials, so a lot of nearby office workers come here too.

Portion and grilling, Sinan salt, and fresh wasabi

At first the meat portion looked small, but once it was grilled well, it turned out to be thick-cut and plenty, and we ate until we were full.

My husband and I don't like pork belly that's overly crispy, but here it was grilled just right — plump and tender. Wrapping it with kimchi and seasoned bean sprouts is pure bliss.

The salt here is harvested from the sea off Sinan, so you can taste the meat's natural flavor as-is — we ate the first piece dipped only in salt, then asked for fresh wasabi to cut through the richness in between bites. The pairing is excellent.

The yukhoe in the set — just a side, but better than expected

Our set included yukhoe, and since it's technically just a side dish, I didn't expect much — but from the plating alone, the beef quality was excellent, and the seasoning wasn't too strong, making it great as an anju (drinking snack)! The julienned pear with radish sprouts, and even the fresh egg yolk — for someone like me who notices the details, this was a fantastic side dish. How could you not have a somaek (soju-beer mix) with this~~~~~~~???

A perfect spread. Don't even hesitate — I recommend the Sodangkkae combo set!

The dining room atmosphere and seating

We visited a bit early, so I took photos of the fairly relaxed dining room. The seats are also divided into sections, so it's comfortable to eat with your group, and the orange lighting I love... haha, gave it a nice atmosphere too.

Finishing with fried rice made from the side vegetables

Finally, the fried rice we ordered!!! The fried rice is really the highlight. It's made by mixing in all the side vegetables from the meal — how could that not be delicious haha. It even has stir-fried kimchi, gim-garu (seasoned seaweed flakes), and a nicely fried egg. I highly recommend having it as a finale, no question......^_^

There's a review event running too, so make sure to try the pork skin — it's the best anju!! While we were eating, staff kept grilling meat continuously for delivery orders too. Seems like Sodangkkae O-gyeopjip is popular as a delivery restaurant as well.

You can enjoy clean, quality Korean pork along with great side dishes and vegetables, and since staff grill everything for you, it's an easy, comfortable place to enjoy with a group — I recommend Sodangkkae O-gyeopjip so, so much!
