Bacon deluxe burger with no wait on a weekend afternoon: Bored & Hungry Mapo
In short
Bored & Hungry Mapo is an American-style burger restaurant on Gwangseong-ro 6-gil near Daeheung Station in Mapo, Seoul. Walking in with no wait at 1pm on a Saturday, the writer ordered a bacon deluxe burger, a shrimp OG burger, and a soda, and found the thick patty and crispy bacon's salty flavor stayed front and center instead of getting buried in sauce. A satisfying pick if you're after a hearty American-style burger meal.

Hamburger spot near Sinchon, burger recommendation near Daeheung Station in Seoul — I finally made it to Bored & Hungry Mapo.

While looking for a good Seoul burger place, I heard the Mapo branch of Bored & Hungry really nails that authentic American burger feel, so I rushed straight over!! I got there around 1pm on a weekend.

Was there a wait at 1pm on a weekend?
You can register for the wait list on a machine outside the store, and when I visited I walked right in with no wait at all.

There are 2-person and 4-person tables, and the space is decorated with a lot of color.

The restaurant is on the ground floor, and here's the overall vibe of the place.

Payment methods and the self-bar
You can use Onnuri gift certificates, and everything from Kakao Pay to Alipay is accepted.
At the self-bar you can freely grab plates, forks and knives, disposable gloves, hot sauce, and even cute stickers.
There was a lot of branded merch around the store too! Bored & Hungry actually started in Seongsu. Their philosophy goes beyond just being a place to grab a quick meal — they want to be a space where you can enjoy delicious handmade burgers and take a relaxing, fun break.
They also say they cook to bring out the natural flavor of the ingredients while adding their own signature Bored & Hungry character, so every bite delivers deep flavor and satisfaction. Knowing they carefully consider everything from ingredient selection to the cooking process for every single order made me even more excited.

After ordering, the food gets brought to your table, and once you're done eating you bus your own dishes to the return station!

What I ordered, and the prices
Bacon deluxe burger ₩11,900 Shrimp OG burger ₩12,400 Soda ₩3,000
That's what I ordered.

When you order a drink, you get a cup and pour whatever you like yourself, so I grabbed a plate, cutlery, wet wipes, and disposable gloves from the self-bar.
I filled my cup with ice and Coke Zero, and also grabbed some hot sauce from the self-bar just in case.
The burgers I'd been waiting and waiting for finally arrived! The shrimp OG burger had a thick shrimp patty topped with onion and lettuce — it looked like the textbook definition of a handmade burger.

Normally I always order fries as a set with my burger, but with the whole diet thing lately, I held myself back on the fries ㅠㅠㅠ

And the bacon deluxe burger came with extra bacon, a beef patty, and tomato, all wrapped up neatly for easy eating.

Each bacon deluxe burger came with a signature monkey pick stuck in it, which was such a special touch! It kind of looked like the monkey was holding the burger, haha.

So how did the bacon deluxe burger taste?
I already love handmade burgers, and since this place is famous in Seoul, my expectations were sky-high!! It was every bit as good as I'd hoped.

The patty was really thick, the vegetables inside were fresh, and even though American-style burgers don't usually pile on the veggies, what little was there came through in every bite.

The bacon deluxe burger has bacon grilled nice and crispy, plus more vegetables than other burgers here. Did you know a burger is honestly a pretty well-rounded meal, carbs, protein, and fat all in one?!

And it's the kind of menu item everyone from kids to adults can love without any real dislikes, which makes it even better. Watching the other customers, I saw everyone from little kids to elderly folks coming in. The bacon deluxe burger looked pretty hearty visually too — with patty, bacon, cheese, and vegetables all stacked in, it clearly looked more filling than a regular burger!
Look how thick that patty is... I usually prefer the shrimp burger, but that day I was craving a meat patty, so next time I'll try the shrimp burger too! It looked so crispy I swear I could feel the crunch right through the photo, haha.
The first bite hit me with the salty, savory flavor of the bacon. The meaty aroma of the patty blended really well with the bacon, giving it an overall rich, deep flavor.

It was also light enough to eat comfortably, and the patty stayed juicy, so my mouth was happy the whole time I was eating, haha.

And the sauce wasn't overpowering — it brought out the flavor of the patty and bacon while adding a sweet-salty balance, so it was easy to eat without feeling heavy.

The burger itself was pretty thick, so it was a bit of a struggle to open my mouth wide enough for it, haha, but that's exactly the kind of burger you eat it for!

Overall it was bold in flavor but not overly greasy, and the distinct saltiness of the bacon really came through — a satisfying bacon deluxe burger! I think I'll come back for this again on a day I want a hearty burger fix. Highly recommend Bored & Hungry Mapo for anyone looking for a burger spot near Sinchon or Daeheung Station in Seoul.
