Seafood hot pot kalguksu near Oido Station, Siheung: 52 Degree

In short

52 Degree Kalguksu Oido Main Branch is a seafood shabu-shabu style kalguksu (knife-cut noodle) restaurant on Oido-ro in Siheung, Gyeonggi. On a Saturday evening visit, the seafood hot pot kalguksu for two cost 42,000 won and came loaded with octopus, abalone, yellow crab, shrimp and clams, with noodles added at the end. The kimchi was good enough to refill twice, and the small lot behind 52 Degree Kalguksu was full in the evening, so a nearby public lot worked instead.

With the cool autumn weather setting in 🍂, I went to see the sea at Oido. Oido means seafood, right! So we ate delicious seafood kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) at '52 Degree Kalguksu Oido Main Branch' ✿

Unlike a typical kalguksu, this place felt more like a seafood shabu-shabu! Just look at the photos — amazing, right?! 52 Degree Kalguksu is such a seafood spot that it's even been featured on TV shows like Live Today and Live Tonight. I already love seafood so I ate incredibly well (。•ᴗ•。)♡ Let's get into the review!

They say the seafood kalguksu carries 52 years of the owner's mother's cooking skill and 20 years of her youth..🐚 Already looking forward to it, right?! We ordered the seafood hot pot kalguksu for two ✧

The kimchi side dish, and why we refilled it twice

At 52 Degree Kalguksu, chojang (vinegar-chili sauce), soy-wasabi sauce, and kimchi are served first! And you know kimchi is the lifeblood of a kalguksu restaurant, right..✨ The kimchi here is genuinely delicious. We refilled it twice — it was exactly my taste!!

Even with all that seafood, this kimchi is good enough to make you reach for it over the seafood. It's a real kimchi spot. And it's not spicy!

After that, a taster portion of barley rice and yeolmu kimchi (young radish kimchi) comes out! Mix the barley rice with the yeolmu kimchi and chojang and it disappears in no time 🩵

Finally, the seafood kalguksu arrives! After eating the seafood shabu-shabu, you add the noodles at the end! And this is ₩42,000 — pretty great deal, right?!🦑

It's packed with fresh seafood like abalone, octopus, and shrimp🦃 The abalone was actually still moving.. And unusually for a shabu-shabu, it's served with bean sprouts instead of mung bean sprouts. I already love bean sprouts so I was even more satisfied. Bean sprouts really go well with seafood 🩵

How to eat the seafood hot pot kalguksu, step by step

How to eat the seafood hot pot kalguksu is explained above the table-order screen!

  • Once the broth starts boiling, eat the octopus and beef brisket first
  • Once the broth is boiling, flip the crab once
  • Eat the cooked shellfish, abalone, shrimp, dumplings, vegetables, and enoki mushrooms
  • Add the noodles and eat

Fresh abalone…🫢

Pot with a fresh, still-moving abalone inside

The staff placed the octopus and beef brisket on the right so we could eat them first! It was genuinely convenient and nice 🐙

The shabu broth itself is mild! Perfect for the seafood shabu. The octopus was so springy and tender and delicious..🐙 Not chewy at all!

Staff prep the crab at your table

While you're flipping the crab once, a staff member comes over and preps it for you. The staff kept checking on us throughout so we didn't need to ask for anything — they just took care of it! You can just relax and eat haha 🩵

And as the shellfish cook, the shells gradually open up. They're huge and plump, right?!

Large plump shellfish with shells opening as they cook

There are two shrimp, and they were plump and delicious as expected 🦐

Two plump shrimp in the pot

The mussels were fresh and chewy too 🦪 And by this point, the broth has picked up all that seafood flavor, so it gets much richer and more delicious!! It really feels like the kalguksu broth is coming together..?!

There are two abalone too! They were so fresh they were still moving..🩵 Chewy and delicious as expected.

Finishing the pot with kalguksu noodles

Finally, noodle time ⏰ You add the noodles yourself whenever you're ready! Even before adding the noodles, there was already so much seafood that I was full haha...

Once it comes to a boil, the kalguksu finally appears!! It's called seafood hot pot kalguksu, but it really felt more like a seafood hot pot with a bit of kalguksu..🍜 With so much seafood, adding the noodles on top makes you genuinely stuffed.. A totally filling meal 🩵 I ate so well!! There are a lot of kalguksu restaurants in Oido so you might be torn on which to pick, but you really won't regret 52 Degree Kalguksu ✨

1st floor or 2nd floor: which seats are better?

52 Degree Kalguksu has 1st and 2nd floors. It seems like once the 2nd floor fills up, they seat you on the 1st floor! We ate on the 2nd floor and I could see why. There's a really pretty ocean view spread out in front of you 🌊

Finished seafood kalguksu with noodles added

This is the 1st floor! It's quieter compared to the 2nd floor. There are plenty of seats on the 1st floor too.

This is the 2nd floor! Definitely a lot more customers. The 2nd floor was almost completely full. Must be a popular spot ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ

Crowded 2nd floor dining hall at 52 Degree Kalguksu

The ocean view is amazing.. If you sit by the window, you can enjoy a gorgeous ocean view while you eat 🩵 It was so pretty mid-dinner that I quickly snapped a photo haha. We didn't get a window seat since there wasn't one available, but sitting by the window watching the sunset over dinner would really be an unforgettable meal haha

Ocean view of Oido seen from the 2nd floor window seats

On the stairs up to the 2nd floor there are tons of signatures, and framed clips from the TV appearances hung on the wall! Definitely a certified great spot..🩵 Such a satisfying meal (。•ᴗ•。)♡
