Gwangmyeong Station jjukkumi restaurant with gim-wrapped fried rice

In short

Jeongipum Jjukkumi Gwangmyeong 1st Branch is a griddled baby octopus (jjukkumi) restaurant beside the AK Plaza building at Gwangmyeong Station in Gyeonggi. The writer reserved a table, asked for the griddled jjukkumi with the loaded add-on set (black pork belly) to be made less spicy, and finished with flying fish roe fried rice, which the staff cooked at the table before showing how to roast the leftover gim (seaweed) and wrap the rice in it. Jeongipum Jjukkumi Gwangmyeong 1st Branch suits spice-sensitive eaters and supports parking for up to 8 hours.

If you want a proper meal at Gwangmyeong Station, just go to Jeongipum Jjukkumi! Great for solo dining and for group meals too — here's my review of Jeongipum Jjukkumi Gwangmyeong 1st Branch.

Where is Jeongipum Jjukkumi Gwangmyeong 1st Branch, and what are the hours?

Jeongipum Jjukkumi Gwangmyeong 1st Branch is near the Gwangmyeong AK Plaza building, open Mon-Sun 11:30-22:00. Break time is 16:00-17:00, last order is 15:00 and 21:00. Parking is available, and the restroom is an external one right in front of the restaurant, so it's clean.

I'd walked past Jeongipum Jjukkumi many times near the AK Plaza building. It's always packed, so I made a reservation before visiting — and got treated like an omakase guest at my table haha.

Can you order the griddled jjukkumi less spicy? Yes, even for spice-shy eaters

That day at Jeongipum Jjukkumi Gwangmyeong 1st Branch, I picked griddled jjukkumi (octopus) with extra toppings including black pork belly, and flying fish roe fried rice. They can make it mild here.

Not a chain — Jeongipum Jjukkumi Gwangmyeong 1st Branch is a place that grew from a recipe passed down from the owner's uncle! I already love jjukkumi, so my expectations were sky-high!

  • Griddled jjukkumi with extra toppings (black pork belly) — mild spice available on request
  • Flying fish roe fried rice

Most jjukkumi places can go spicier but rarely milder — this one does mild, which makes it great for anyone who can't handle heat 👍

What comes in the loaded add-on set: minari and black pork belly

With extra toppings, the minari (water dropwort) comes piled on! Randomly enough, it's sourced fresh straight from a farm! It just looks noticeably fresher somehow. The black pork belly comes in generous, good-quality cuts, just as hearty as the star ingredient, jjukkumi!

Staff cook the griddle for you, plus a complimentary steamed egg

At Jeongipum Jjukkumi, the staff do all the stir-frying themselves, so we didn't have to lift a finger. I could hear the sizzle of the jjukkumi cooking from here. You literally just sit and eat... I'm turning into a little piggy at this rate 🐷

Midway through, a complimentary egg custard (gyeranjjim) came out too. The seasoning was so spot-on that I kept complimenting it as I ate! It's very hot, so be careful!

The griddled jjukkumi finished beautifully. You know jjukkumi is surprisingly tricky to cook just right? Since a pro cooked it, the doneness was perfect ✨ And above all, the octopus was so plump! It's been a while since I had jjukkumi this meaty 🐙

The classic wrap: perilla leaf, gim, flying fish roe, shredded radish and bean sprouts

Now it's time to actually eat. I like doing things the classic way — ramyeon tastes best cooked the standard way, and jjukkumi tastes best wrapped the standard way!!

Perilla leaf, gim (seaweed), flying fish roe, radish strips, bean sprouts, and white sauce all piled in for one big bite — pure bliss 👩‍🍳 Spicy-sweet with a little dopamine hit?! My husband and I genuinely said this was the best griddled jjukkumi we've ever had. We both agreed — this is a real find.

Side dishes by tablet: only flying fish roe costs extra

If you run low on side dishes mid-meal, just request more via the tablet and they bring it right away — even the most introverted people can order without hassle. Only the flying fish roe has an extra charge; all other side dishes are refillable free!👍

The side black pork belly is huge too, so wrapping it up on its own like a meat wrap fills your mouth with deliciousness. Meat and seafood together is a wild combo! Wrap after wrap, and the kimchi disappeared too!

Flying fish roe fried rice wrapped in roasted leftover gim

Koreans can never resist the finishing fried rice! I went with the flying fish roe fried rice, and it was a very satisfying choice. When there's too much sauce left, they adjust it themselves so the seasoning comes out just right. Fried rice made by staff with some serious knife-and-spatula skills 🍳

The real kick of the fried rice is roasting the leftover gim!!! They told us wrapping the fried rice in roasted leftover gim tastes amazing, and it was a total revelation!!! Why did I never think of this before. Seriously, always roast your leftover gim — you'll want seconds.
