Korean BBQ in Gwangmyeong: charcoal-grilled marinated galbi for two
In short
Sodam Galbi Gwangmyeong Soha Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant in Soha-dong, Gwangmyeong, Gyeonggi, with its own in-house meat processing room next to the dining area. The signature handmade marinated galbi for two (250g per person, ₩16,000) was grilled over charcoal and paired with bibim naengmyeon, and the marinade tasted moist and balanced rather than artificially sweet. With free basement parking validated at the counter, it's a place worth returning to for a family meal or a work dinner.

Ever have one of those exhausting weekday evenings where you just think, "Tonight I need to heal with sweet, tender marinated galbi (ribs) — no other option"?
On the days when life feels too busy or you're completely drained, one juicy piece of marinated galbi grilling to a golden brown over charcoal can be more comforting than any other food in the world 😋
Not long ago, right after work, I couldn't resist the craving and rushed over to Sodam Galbi Gwangmyeong Soha Branch, a Korean BBQ restaurant that's become a well-known name around Soha-dong. Here's my review of the handmade marinated galbi I tried!
Sodam Galbi Gwangmyeong Soha Branch: hours and parking

- Weekday break time: 15:30 – 16:30 (no break time on weekends and holidays)

You can park comfortably on basement floors B2–B3 of the building (Haengun Dream Plaza), and after your meal, the restaurant will validate your parking for free — very convenient if you're driving.
Entrance with an in-house meat processing room, and the dining atmosphere

Coming up to the second floor of the building, you'll see the tidy entrance of Sodam Galbi. Right next to the entrance is a separate handmade meat processing room, which already had me excited about the quality of the meat and marinade before I even stepped inside.

Walking inside, the ventilation system was excellent and the tables were spaced generously, making it very comfortable. With cushioned sofa seating and long connected tables, it's exactly the kind of Soha-dong Korean BBQ spot that works great for family meals, work dinners, or any kind of gathering.
Menu and prices

Once seated, I looked over the menu! There was a good range of grilled options — Korean pork ribs, fresh pork belly, beef galbisal, and more. We went straight for the signature dish: handmade marinated galbi for two (250g per person / ₩16,000).
Self-serve bar and the basic table setting

After ordering, I checked out the self-serve bar set up along one side of the restaurant. Fresh wrap vegetables, pickled onions, garlic, and sauces, plus scissors, tongs and other tools, were all kept spotless and well organized. There was even a coffee machine for after-meal coffee — a nice little touch.

The basic side dishes arrived promptly and looked lovely. From the salad with a tangy dressing to seasoned lotus root, kimchi, raw garlic, and the house ssamjang (dipping sauce), every side dish was clean and fresh, doing a great job of setting up the flavor of the meat.
Handmade marinated galbi for two, grilled over charcoal

Finally, our order of handmade marinated galbi for two arrived! The meat was scored with tight cuts so the marinade really soaked in — just looking at it made my mouth water. The meat was thick and the portion was more generous than I expected, so I was very satisfied.

A hot charcoal grill was set up at the table. The charcoal aroma was subtle and the heat was strong — ideal for grilling the marinated galbi crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside.

While waiting for the galbi to cook, the bibim naengmyeon (spicy cold noodles) we ordered arrived too! Topped with crisp cucumber and boiled egg in a sweet-and-spicy sauce, wrapping it around a piece of golden-grilled galbi made for an absolutely perfect pairing 😋

The moment I bit into a nicely browned piece of galbi, the deep, mellow flavor of the handmade marinade — not artificially sweet at all — filled my mouth along with a burst of juices, and I couldn't help but smile. It had no gamey smell, was moist and tender, and I ended up devouring it all the way to the last piece without ever getting tired of it.
Overall verdict
1. Taste and meat quality
True to a specialty restaurant with its own handmade meat processing room, the quality of the meat was outstanding, and the tight scoring let the moist marinade soak in deeply. The clean, house-made marinade — not overly sweet or sharp — combined beautifully with the subtle charcoal aroma, making this a Soha-dong Korean BBQ spot that people of all ages can enjoy without complaint.
2. Restaurant atmosphere and service
The spacious, comfortable seating layout and the self-serve bar system really stood out. The basic side dishes were served neatly, and throughout the meal I felt well taken care of in a relaxed atmosphere.
3. Convenience and would I return
With well-equipped free basement parking, it's easy to visit by car, and aside from the weekday break time, it's a comfortable place to drop by anytime. When I want to fill a little everyday happiness with hearty sweetness, this is a Soha-dong Korean BBQ restaurant I'd happily return to with people I care about — 200% satisfied!
