I was craving something spicy after a while, so I headed to Jeongipum Jjukkumi Gwangmyeong 1st Branch, a jjukkumi (spicy stir-fried baby octopus) restaurant near Gwangmyeong Station. This was my first visit since the restaurant expanded, and both the kids and the parents left satisfied. Let me share our meal — the adults had jjukkumi stir-fry, and the kids had pork cutlets.

First visit to the expanded restaurant

Honestly, I might have had about 0.00000000001% of a hand in Jeongipum Jjukkumi Gwangmyeong 1st Branch's expansion — I used to come here for lunch with neighborhood friends all the time before it expanded, haha.

You can either book ahead through Naver Reservation, or wait for a table on-site using Catch Table.

We had booked ahead on Naver, and since we arrived right after break time, there was plenty of open seating. But within an hour, by the time we finished eating and left, the place had filled right up with customers.

Once we sat down, they set out the side dishes, including the essential four for eating jjukkumi stir-fry.

✨️ How to eat Jeongipum jjukkumi stir-fry the right way
This wasn't my first visit, so I wrapped my jjukkumi neatly without thinking. My husband, on the other hand, was here for the first time and carefully followed the instructions shown on the tablet screen.
What's on the tablet menu?
The tablet at Jeongipum Jjukkumi Gwangmyeong 1st Branch was more useful than any restaurant tablet I've used before.
Main menu + extra noodles + fried rice
I wanted to check out the lunch menu too, but since we came in the evening, it wasn't available to view.
Side menu + kids' menu

Since the kids couldn't eat the jjukkumi stir-fry, we ordered them cheese pork cutlet and pork loin cutlet.
Takeout (uncooked) + takeout (cooked)
Jeongipum Jjukkumi Gwangmyeong 1st Branch also sells takeout menus, split into raw and cooked options.

Parking registration is self-service, so make sure to register at the machine by the entrance before you leave!!
Calling staff

The button I pressed most on the tablet was definitely the staff call button. Between the flying fish roe event, the receipt review event, and refills of perilla leaves, seaweed, bean sprouts, lemon-pickled radish, and white sauce, I pressed it quite a few times — and the staff were kind and responsive every single time.
Jjukkumi stir-fry with black pork belly

For the jjukkumi stir-fry, you can choose between black pork belly or Black Angus beef brisket. You can also choose your spice level, which was great for a spice wimp like me.

Even without pressing the call button, the staff kept coming by to stir-fry it for us.
Only one steamed egg comes with the meal, but since they clearly know jjukkumi diners might fight over it, they thoughtfully brought an extra one for the kids too, haha.
Once it was cooked enough, they told us we could start eating the jjukkumi, so we dug in right away.

Alternating between a wrap of jjukkumi and a wrap of black pork belly, we ended up refilling the perilla leaves and side dishes several times.
We finished the jjukkumi stir-fry pretty quickly and ordered two servings of fried rice. Every time they came to stir-fry it, they kindly warned us to be careful, since it could splatter onto our clothes.

✨️ Tip for enjoying Jeongipum's fried rice
They told us that lining the edge of the griddle with seaweed and wrapping the rice in the lightly toasted seaweed tastes great, so being the wrap-lover that I am, I topped mine with steamed egg too and wrapped it all in perilla leaf again.
Kids' pork cutlet and cheese cutlet

The kids ordered pork cutlet and cheese cutlet according to their preference. They came pre-cut into bite-sized pieces, so it was convenient for the kids to eat and didn't get in the way of us enjoying the jjukkumi, haha.

Looking back after we finished, I realized lately it feels like the restaurant practically does the dishes for you before you leave, haha.
