I was trying to figure out what to eat in Daehangno, and that day I was craving something different from usual, so I went out for Indian curry! The place I visited was Meono Kkameona Daehangno Branch.

I had no idea there was such a proper Indian restaurant in Hyehwa — the moment I walked in, the atmosphere felt so exotic I felt like I was traveling abroad 🇮🇳✨ If you like curry, this is a Daehangno spot worth remembering.

It's a quick walk from Hyehwa Station so it's easy to get to, and the location is great for a meal before or after seeing a play in Daehangno!!

Inside Meono Kkameona: an Indian dining room in the middle of Hyehwa

Once I stepped inside, the atmosphere was even more exotic than I expected. There were staff from India too, and the interior really felt like the real thing — for a moment it felt like I was eating a meal abroad, haha 🇮🇳

There were plenty of tables, so it looked good not just for dates but for visits with friends or family too. A good fit for the day you want something different from the usual Korean or Western food in Daehangno.

The menu is broadly split into Curry / Tandoori / Naan & Rice / Sides / Drinks & alcohol. There's also a 2-person set, so if you want to try several dishes at once, ordering the set is a good idea!

That day we ordered momo, tandoori chicken, butter chicken curry, mutton palak, butter naan, and Indian rice, and my boyfriend had a beer with it too 🍺

There's quite a variety of curries, so it seems like a good idea to come with a few people, order different curries, and share them with naan or rice. That kind of sharing setup is exactly the charm of Indian food!

Mutton palak or butter chicken curry — which one won?

First, the momo felt like an Indian-Nepali style dumpling. It was packed full inside with a fairly strong meaty flavor! We got it complimentary that day, but it's a good dish to try at least once on your first visit.

We tried two curries, and both my boyfriend and I gave our vote to mutton palak! 🙋‍♀️ It's a curry made with lamb, and the spices weren't too strong — mild and savory. Even people who find Indian curry intimidating because of the spices might find this one fairly approachable.

On the other hand, the butter chicken has a tomato base so it has a slightly tangy taste, which might be a matter of preference. For me, mutton palak was definitely the tastier one, haha.

And you really can't skip the butter naan 🫓 It's chewy naan with a full buttery aroma, and dipping it warm into the curry was so good!

I've always loved Indian-style rice, and piling mutton palak generously onto the fluffy, separate grains was the best combo 👍🏻 The side pickles like onion pickle and jalapeño also came in handy between bites to reset my palate.

Tandoori chicken with a cold beer

The tandoori chicken wasn't dry or tough at all, and it had that distinct tandoori aroma that went really well with beer 🍗🍺 My boyfriend especially loved it, haha. Being able to enjoy both curry and tandoori dishes here is another reason I'd recommend this as a Daehangno spot.

It was surprising to find an Indian restaurant with such a genuinely local atmosphere in Hyehwa! The combination of mutton palak with butter naan and fluffy Indian rice is what stuck with me the most 💛
