Early 5pm dinner mulhoe near Yeongildae Beach, Pohang: Ppwang Mulhoe
In short
Ppwang Mulhoe is a mulhoe (raw fish in icy broth) restaurant right in front of Yeongildae Beach in Pohang, and dogs are welcome indoors, with a dedicated pet room for guests who bring them. Arriving at 5pm meant no wait at all, and flounder mulhoe and squid mulhoe were 20,000 won each, rounded out with self-bar side dishes, squid soup, and noodles and rice mixed into the bowl. The spicy-sweet sauce mellowed as soon as the icy broth was poured in, so even a weak spice tolerance could handle it.

Today I'm introducing a Pohang favorite: Ppwang Mulhoe. If there's one dish you have to eat in Pohang, it's mulhoe (raw fish in cold, spicy broth)! There are several mulhoe specialty restaurants lined up in front of Yeongildae Beach in Pohang, and out of all of them, the one we picked was Ppwang Mulhoe.

Ppwang Mulhoe, a Pohang mulhoe favorite, sits right in front of Yeongildae Beach, so it's a great stop before or after a walk along the water.

There's a parking area right in front of the restaurant, though it's not very big. If it fills up, there's a public parking lot nearby, so I didn't have to worry about parking.

Bringing a dog indoors, and why 5pm means no wait
Ppwang Mulhoe also allows dogs indoors, so you can visit with your pup.
Stepping inside, the place turned out to be quite spacious — it would work well for a group dinner too.
Since we came with a dog, staff guided us to a dedicated room, so we could relax without any awkwardness.
We showed up around 5pm for an early dinner and got seated with no wait at all.
Ppwang Mulhoe menu and prices

Here's the Ppwang Mulhoe menu board.

Ppwang Mulhoe offers a wide range: squid mulhoe, flounder mulhoe, a half-and-half squid-and-flounder mulhoe, a 3-seafood combo mulhoe, plus raw fish (hoe) and boiled squid. Here's what we ordered 👇👇👇
- Chamgajami (flounder) mulhoe ₩20,000
- Squid mulhoe ₩20,000
They also give out mini fried squid if you leave a receipt review on Naver Place, so give it a try if you visit!

What's on the self bar: side dishes and squid soup
Ppwang Mulhoe has a self bar with unlimited side dishes.
There was kimchi, anchovies, fish cake, sausage, and more.

There was also warm squid soup, and it was delicious with a nice hint of spice.

After a bit, both mulhoe bowls we ordered arrived together.

We also got fried squid from the receipt review event — crispy fried squid was the perfect side to eat alongside the mulhoe.
First things first, apron on before digging into mulhoe!

Now let's actually dig in. On the left is the flounder mulhoe, and on the right is the squid mulhoe.
How was the flounder mulhoe at Ppwang Mulhoe?
First up, the flounder mulhoe. It was loaded with tender flounder sashimi.

Mixing it well with the gochujang sauce and taking a bite, it was spicy-sweet and delicious.

It was a touch spicy for someone like me who can't handle much heat, but since it came with a bowl of rice, I could tone down the spiciness.
How was the squid mulhoe at Ppwang Mulhoe?

Next up, the squid mulhoe. It also came loaded with bouncy, chewy squid sashimi.
The squid mulhoe was just as good a match with the gochujang sauce.
This one also came with a bowl of rice on the side.
How to eat mulhoe at Ppwang Mulhoe in 5 steps

How to enjoy Ppwang Mulhoe
- Mix it first
- Use the self bar
- Add noodles
- Mix in rice for a hearty finish
- Pair with side dishes
I followed this method myself.

After tasting it mixed first, it was time to pour in the cold broth! Pouring in the icy, slushy broth added coolness and sweetness, making the spicy-sweet flavor even better. And once the broth went in, the spiciness mellowed out, which was perfect for someone like me who can't handle much spice.

Next, it's time to add noodles! The noodles are at the self bar, and you can take as much as you want.

Mixing the chewy noodles into the cold, spicy-sweet broth was absolutely delicious.

The last step for enjoying Ppwang Mulhoe best is mixing in rice! We were already full after one bowl of noodles each, but mixing in rice on top made it truly satisfying.
After eating spicy-sweet, cold mulhoe at Ppwang Mulhoe, a Pohang favorite, we finished with a walk along Yeongildae Beach right out front — the perfect course. If you're looking for a dog-friendly mulhoe restaurant in Pohang, I recommend Ppwang Mulhoe.
