What kind of place is Hoega, the Sokcho sashimi takeout shop?

Hoega is a sashimi restaurant specializing in takeout and delivery, located on Beonyeong-ro 43beon-gil in Sokcho. You can't skip sashimi on a Sokcho trip, right?! But sometimes I'd rather lay out a full sashimi spread comfortably back at the hotel than eat at the restaurant itself. So this time, while looking for Sokcho sashimi takeout spots, I picked up food from Hoega. Even the sign out front says it's a takeout, delivery, and dine-in specialist, so it's a great option for anyone in Sokcho looking for packaged sashimi.

Reserving Hoega by phone while shopping at Sokcho Jungang Market, then picking it up by car

I called Hoega to reserve while shopping at Sokcho Jungang Market! It's too far to walk from the market, but close by car, so I swung by to pick it up on the way to the hotel haha! There were a lot of customers in the shop too! Several tables were set up inside. It had more of a cozy neighborhood sashimi joint vibe than a flashy, polished one — and honestly, I find places like this even more charming haha.

And above all, the owner was really kind. When you're picking up takeout while traveling, the food matters, but friendly service just makes you feel good too. It made a great first impression even before I got the food — a solid Sokcho sashimi takeout spot.

Where to park at Hoega in Sokcho

For parking at Hoega, you can park briefly in front of the shop, and there's a K Mart across the street where you can also park! Since I was just grabbing my takeout order quickly, I pulled up in front of the shop and went in.

To cut to the chase — the moment I picked up the takeout bag, I thought, 'why is this so heavy?' haha. It wasn't just sashimi packed in there; the whole set they put together was surprisingly generous.

What's in the Hoega takeout set, from thick mixed sashimi to abalone mulhoe

Sashimi carefully packed with an ice pack included

The ride back to the hotel was longer than I expected, so I was worried about the mulhoe and sashimi, but they packed everything carefully, and even added ice packs without me asking — so I could carry it back nice and cold!

Once I got to the hotel, I started unpacking everything one by one — and my jaw dropped haha. From the main sashimi to mulhoe, somyeon noodles, sushi rice, and sides like kimchi, garlic, wasabi, and radish sprouts, the table filled up fast. When looking for a good-value sashimi restaurant in Sokcho, I think what you actually get matters as much as the price — and here, once it was all laid out, it felt like a proper sashimi party on vacation.

How thick was the sashimi at Hoega?

Of course, the sashimi was the real star! Even looking back at the photos, each slice isn't thin at all — it's thick and plump. When I picked up a piece with chopsticks, I could really feel the thickness. Several kinds were arranged appetizingly on one plate, so it was fun picking through and trying each one. I personally prefer thick-cut sashimi over thin, small slices, so this part especially won me over.

Using the sushi rice to make sashimi sushi at the hotel

What I really loved was that they included sushi rice separately! Placing a slice of sashimi I wanted on top of the neatly formed sushi rice balls instantly made my own custom sashimi sushi haha. Placing a plump piece of sashimi on the rice with a little wasabi on the side was so good. Eating the same sashimi first as-is, then again as sushi, made it twice as fun.

And it didn't stop there — the mulhoe was legit too. At first I figured mulhoe would just be a side dish since sashimi was the main event. But once I opened it up, it was packed with ingredients, from abalone to sashimi. Cool, sweet and tangy mulhoe — seriously the best!!!

Why Hoega's mulhoe was more than a side dish

Especially since there was so much sashimi in the mulhoe too, I thought, 'this isn't just a side dish' haha. With vegetables, sashimi, abalone, and other ingredients all packed in, even the photos looked full. I poured in the mulhoe broth they packed separately, mixed everything together, and started eating — alternating bites of sashimi with mulhoe was a perfect combo.

Somyeon noodles mixed into the mulhoe

Finishing the Hoega spread with somyeon noodles

And I can't forget the somyeon noodles that came with it! I started out eating mostly sashimi and vegetables, then added the noodles into the leftover mulhoe and mixed it all up — it felt like the perfect way to finish the meal. So this place is a solid option not just for Sokcho sashimi takeout, but also for anyone looking for a good mulhoe spot in Sokcho.

Picking up dinner near Sokcho Jungang Market: is Hoega worth it?

Personally, with takeout sashimi, it's always a bit disappointing when something's missing, like ssamjang or garlic, once you're back at the hotel. But this time, there was such a variety of sides that I didn't need to prep anything extra — just laying it all out on the table made a complete spread.

A lot of people probably look for restaurants near Sokcho Jungang Market to grab dinner and eat comfortably back at their hotel. Instead of only searching inside the market itself, I'd recommend widening your search around the area for sashimi takeout spots near Sokcho Jungang Market — this kind of takeout-specialist sashimi restaurant is worth comparing too. I'd recommend Hoega as a Sokcho sashimi takeout spot!
