First up was the signature dish, charcoal salt-grilled pork belly! At ₩15,900 per serving, it uses select Korean pork, and both the color and thickness of the meat were excellent haha.

Once the meat hit the grill over the charcoal fire, that savory charcoal aroma slowly seeped in! The coarse salt dotted across the surface was seriously mouthwatering.

One bite of the golden-grilled meat and the juices burst out, packed with savory flavor! Dipped lightly in salt, it really delivered that distinctive Gyodae-area pork belly flavor haha. Grilling kimchi in the rendered pork fat on the grill and eating it alongside is a fantastic combo!

No meal here is complete without Mrs. Im So-young's doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), so I added one to try! At ₩6,900, it's made with a special recipe from Mrs. Im So-young, born in 1968. With blue crab and clams inside, the broth was rich and refreshing haha.

The refreshing seafood flavor blended with the savory soybean paste and cut right through the richness of the meat! The combination of the grilled pork belly and this stew was so good I finished a whole bowl of rice in no time!

Seasoned kkomjangeo (spicy hagfish), 13,900 won per serving

After finishing the pork belly, I dug into one of my favorite dishes at Galgol Yeontanjip Gyodae: seasoned kkomjangeo (spicy eel)! At ₩13,900 per serving, it comes evenly coated in a special seasoning sauce haha. Grilling it gently on the wire rack over the charcoal fire, that spicy aroma hit my nose right away!

The chewy, springy texture was excellent, making it a great specialty dish! Dipping it generously in the mayonnaise that comes with it and wrapping it in a lettuce leaf is a fantastic combination!!
