Myeongdong gomtang restaurant with bossam samhap: Yangjaeok
In short
Yangjaeok Lotte Department Store Main Branch is a gomtang (beef or pork bone broth with rice) restaurant in the Food Avenue food hall on basement level 1 of Lotte Department Store's main branch in Jung-gu, Seoul, connected underground to Euljiro 1-ga Station. On a weekday early evening the writer ordered the spicy pork gomtang set and the plain pork gomtang set at 20,000 won each, plus a small side bossam (boiled pork) at 15,000 won, piling the bossam onto the tofu and spicy pork stir-fry that come with the sets for a samhap-style three-way bite. With a choice of clean or spicy broth and generous side dishes, Yangjaeok made for a hearty, satisfying meal.

Bringing you a review of Yangjaeok Lotte Department Store Main Branch, a Korean restaurant near Euljiro 1(il)-ga Station ❗️
The gomtang came as a full set with sides, and the portions were so generous it made for a really satisfying, hearty meal — here's my honest review of Yangjaeok Lotte Department Store Main Branch! ❤️
Where Yangjaeok Lotte Department Store Main Branch is, and what the restaurant feels like
Yangjaeok Lotte Department Store Main Branch is a Korean restaurant in the Food Avenue on basement level 1 of Lotte Department Store's main branch, 81 Namdaemun-ro, Jung-gu, Seoul. There's an underground passage connecting straight from Euljiro 1(il)-ga Station to the department store, so it's really accessible ❗️

I visited the basement 1 Food Avenue on a weekday, in the early evening!

The place is spacious and clean, with both group tables and solo-dining seats, so it looked like you could visit comfortably no matter your party size!

Yangjaeok's menu and what we ordered
Yangjaeok is a Korean restaurant with everything from gomtang to a variety of meal options, and my eye kept going back to the set menus

Ordering was done through the tablet at the table — which turned out to matter, since it was thoughtfully set up so you could see each set's composition and dishes in photos beforehand!
📍Today's pick
- Pork gomtang set - ₩20,000
- Spicy pork gomtang set - ₩20,000
- Side bossam (small) - ₩15,000

Such a good smell wafting over~ a spread that gets your saliva going!

Spicy pork gomtang set, 20,000 won: loaded with ugeoji cabbage leaves
The spicy pork gomtang set is ₩20,000, a fiery gomtang loaded with wilted napa cabbage (ugeoji) 🔥

The hot stone bowl was really packed with napa cabbage and meat — you could feel the weight of it lifting a spoonful, wow

The soft napa cabbage and tender, clean-tasting meat had a hangover-soup feel to it — I immediately thought this would be great as a hangover lunch for office workers in Myeongdong or Euljiro 😋

The tofu and spicy pork stir-fry that come with every gomtang set
The tofu and pork stir-fry that come with Yangjaeok's set — isn't this such a great combo?
The soup portion alone is generous, but the pork stir-fry is also a large, tasty portion — the kind of spread where you might end up ordering a drink while eating it ✨

The tofu wasn't dried out, so it was moist and tasty dipped in the seasoned sauce, and topped with a heap of the pork stir-fry? No need to say more, it's so good — a set Koreans can't help but love

Pork gomtang set, 20,000 won: clear broth with cheongyang chili and myeoljeot dip
The pork gomtang set is also ₩20,000. The broth is clear with great umami, and it's packed with meat 👍🏻

Look at how much meat is in there!! It even comes with cheongyang chili myeoljeot (fermented anchovy sauce), which none of the other sets have
Mixed the rice right in!! A clear broth means both kids and adults can eat it without any heaviness, and there's a nutty richness in the broth that kept me coming back for more 🤤
Some places give off a slightly fishy smell if they're not careful, but at Yangjaeok all I could taste was cleanness and umami ❤️

Put a bit of cheongyang chili myeoljeot on the meat, yum~ spicy yet full of umami, and it went so well with the clean-tasting meat — a myeoljeot I wanted to take home ❗️

Side bossam (small), 20,000 won? No, 15,000 won: samhap with tofu and pork stir-fry
The side bossam (small) is ₩15,000, sliced into thick, mouthwatering pieces ✨

A good portion size for two people to try, moist bossam with no gamey smell at all

It's delicious on its own, but eaten together with the tofu that came with the set? Now that's a proper samhap (three-way combo)~
Clean, spicy, and nutty~ the harmony is amazing. Even the sides were perfect — confirmed, a solid Korean restaurant in Myeongdong 👍🏻

Piled bossam onto a lettuce leaf, yum~ the pickled radish strips added good texture and flavor, a real kicker for the bossam..🔥 I wrapped the pork stir-fry in lettuce too and cleaned my plate

Who will enjoy Yangjaeok Lotte Department Store Main Branch?
Located inside Lotte Department Store's main branch, Yangjaeok is a well-known Korean restaurant for Myeongdong date courses too. You can enjoy either the clean or spicy gomtang depending on your taste, and the side dishes pair nicely with drinks as well ✨
A gomtang restaurant I'd recommend for lunch or dinner for office workers around Euljiro and Myeongdong ❤️ Highly recommend Yangjaeok Lotte Department Store Main Branch ❤️
