Today I'm introducing a mulhoe (raw fish in cold spicy broth) spot in Pohang — Ppwang Mulhoe ~

Ppwang Mulhoe

If you're on a Pohang trip, there's one thing you can't skip — cool, spicy-sweet mulhoe 🐟🌊
Among the countless mulhoe spots, I visited 'Ppwang Mulhoe,' which has been getting word-of-mouth buzz lately from both locals and travelers.

The outdoor terrace and sea-view indoor seats at Ppwang Mulhoe
Ppwang Mulhoe also has an outdoor space where you can sit and eat! It felt like an open terrace, so no stuffiness — just fresh air, breeze, and eating mulhoe while looking at the sea 🍃✨
Indoors too, if you turn your head, the wide-open blue Pohang sea comes right into view! The tables were spaced generously, so it felt like a comfortable spot for family, friends, or couples alike~

📍Ppwang Mulhoe menu board📍
As soon as we sat down we ordered the signature Ppwang Mulhoe (₩25,000), squid mulhoe (₩20,000), and squid pajeon (₩15,000)~

What is on the self bar at Ppwang Mulhoe?
On one side of the restaurant, there was a neat self bar corner where you could freely help yourself to basic side dishes and utensils!

There were tidy side dishes, plus fresh vegetables, ssamjang, garlic, chili, and sauces that go well with mulhoe~ Small plates, scissors, tongs, and disposable aprons were all stocked generously at the self bar too, so it was really convenient to just grab what you needed 👍🏻

Even fried snacks and tteokbokki, , , 🤍

Whenever a side dish ran low, the owner refilled it right away and kept wiping down the area too — the cleanliness really stood out✨

Nom nom ~

The owner's sense of detail shows even in the pink apron🌸
How does Ppwang Mulhoe taste once the icy broth goes in?
The Ppwang Mulhoe signature bowl was packed full of sashimi! Thick, chewy slices of fresh raw fish were topped generously with crisp cucumber, sweet pear, and nutty roasted seaweed flakes and sesame 🐟 There wasn't a hint of fishiness — just a nutty sweetness that filled my mouth with every chew~

After enjoying the fresh raw fish on its own for a bit, they poured in a generous amount of the special broth with icy slush floating in it! 🌊
The moment the broth went in, I could instantly feel how the cold temperature made the texture of the thick raw fish even chewier and springier!

Slurping the thin noodles from the self bar together with the raw fish , , that's the taste that blows away summer heat and fatigue ㅠㅠ! 🩵 The cool, spicy-sharp broth soaked right into the noodles, and combined in one bite with the chewy fish and crisp cucumber and pear texture — every bite was fun to chew :) Even as the ice melted, the seasoning didn't get watered down — the rich umami stayed strong to the end, and it was so good haha. If you go to Ppwang Mulhoe, definitely pour the broth in generously, no holding back! 👍✨

Squid pajeon, 15,000 won: the side dish to add
Mulhoe alone felt like not enough, so we also ordered squid pajeon (scallion pancake) as a side! The moment it hit the table, the savory oil smell and golden-brown look were great 🦑
You could see at a glance that plump, chewy squid was packed generously all over the pancake🤤 The edges were as crispy as a cracker, while the inside was moist, and the sweet green onion and chewy squid texture blended together fantastically!

Dipping it into the salty seasoned soy sauce that came with it — pure honey taste~

There were already a lot of customers when we walked in, and the place was still packed by the time we finished eating , , !

On the way out after paying, we each grabbed a sweet candy for dessert sitting on the counter! 🍭
From the refreshing Pohang sea view right in front of us, to the pink interior that was totally my taste, to the generous raw fish mulhoe and crispy squid pajeon — everything about 'Ppwang Mulhoe' was perfect! 🌊 ⭐If you're planning a Pohang trip, I recommend it as a mulhoe course to enjoy while looking at the sea!⭐
