Seoul Station gyukatsu restaurant with a shared rice pot: Ichigyu
In short
Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch is a gyukatsu (Japanese-style beef cutlet) and steak restaurant in the basement food court of the LG Seoul Station Building in Jung-gu, Seoul. Ordering the sirloin gyukatsu set and the sirloin steak set for an after-work dinner, the writer melted French Isigny butter on the tabletop brazier, grilled each piece to the doneness they wanted, and scooped rice from the pot served for the table. Crispy breading, juicy sirloin and a spot about 100m from Seoul Station exit 10 make Ichigyu an easy dinner after work or a quick meal before a train.

My friend Yerim was getting off work and we decided to grab dinner nearby, so off to Seoul Station I went! While looking up what to eat around there, I found out that Ichigyu — a gyukatsu (Japanese-style beef cutlet) place I'd enjoyed before — has a branch at Seoul Station too?!

I went with the sirloin gyukatsu! Yerim went with the steak set! We got to grill the beef ourselves on the brazier to whatever doneness we wanted, so we really enjoyed a proper dinner!
Where is Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch, and what are the hours?
Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch is located in the basement food court of the LG Seoul Station Building, haha. It's about 100m from Seoul Station exit 10, so isn't it the perfect spot for a meal after work or before/after catching the KTX?-? Hours are daily 11:00–21:30, with a break time from 15:00–17:00.

Once you go down to the basement level via the stairs, you can spot the Ichigyu sign from a distance!

There was a big chunk of meat hanging at the entrance — I only noticed it properly when editing photos at home lol. Thankfully it turned out not to be real meat... CatchTable waitlist is available!

Inside Ichigyu: the dining room and the tabletop brazier
From the exterior to the interior, Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch is done up in wood tones, giving off a clean yet warm vibe!

The place itself isn't huge, but the tables were arranged efficiently, and there's a small brazier at each one for grilling meat yourself, haha. Since it was evening and Yerim had just gotten off work, other office workers started trickling in too!

As I mentioned, my friend ordered the steak set! I went with the basic gyukatsu, haha.

I ordered a Sprite just in case things got too rich, but it turned out not to be greasy at all, so I barely drank it... still, nice to have it as backup.
Rice served in a pot for the table, scooped yourself
Rice you scoop yourself

The set arrived without rice, which threw me off for a second, but here it comes — warm rice served whole in a pot.

You just scoop out as much as you want!
Sirloin gyukatsu set grilled in French Isigny butter
Gyukatsu set

My gyukatsu set arrived~ Is it even allowed for gyukatsu to have marbling this good?!

The outside is fried golden brown, but the inside is almost rare, haha. Now you grill it further in butter on the tabletop brazier to whatever doneness you like.
They even give you top-grade French Isigny butter~ Melt the butter on the heated plate, lay one or two pieces of gyukatsu on top, and it sizzles away without sticking, picking up extra butter flavor along the way — smells and tastes nutty and wonderful!

I prefer it with a hint of pink left rather than fully cooked through, so I only grilled each side lightly!-!
Sometimes the breading gets soggy at other places, but here the outer coating stayed crispy while the meat inside was moist and tender — I thought, this is truly a great restaurant!

Salt, wasabi and Ichigyu's special sauce: which pairing works?
Eaten plain, the gyukatsu really lets the sirloin's own flavor come through, and a little salt and wasabi on top brings out a deeper nuttiness, haha.

The special sauce has a hint of garlic and is tangy-sweet-salty, so dipping the gyukatsu in it cuts through any richness completely! Great with rice too!
How does the sirloin steak set at Ichigyu taste?
Sirloin steak set

The sirloin steak set uses the same sirloin cut, but it's served pure — just the meat, neatly arranged.

We came straight from work and said we were starving, but with rice and soup included, it made for a really satisfying dinner!

I got to try a bite of Yerim's meat — if the gyukatsu is all about crispy, nutty goodness, the steak set definitely leans into deeper meaty flavor and juiciness, haha.

Searing just the outside of the chuck flap left the inside really soft and moist!
Is Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch worth it for gyukatsu?
Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch, where I went for dinner with Yerim after her shift! Both the sirloin gyukatsu and the steak set tasted even better grilling each piece ourselves to our own doneness on the buttered brazier, and the sirloin's nutty flavor really shone through. If you're looking for a gyukatsu spot near Seoul Station for dinner after work, or a solid meal before catching a train, why not give Ichigyu a try?
