I was craving good gyukatsu (breaded beef cutlet) so I went looking around and ended up at Ichigyu Balsan Station Branch near Balsan Station. To cut to the chase — the gyukatsu here is seriously, ridiculously good . .🤍 If you're looking for lunch or dinner near Balsan Station, how about gyukatsu with that crispy-outside, juicy-inside texture that makes it a real Balsan favorite?~

Cozy wood-tone interior, what's the seating like?

The interior has a calm atmosphere that's great for eating a quiet meal, so it would work fine for a date too. There were various seating options from 2-seat to 4-seat tables, and also tables where a bigger group could sit together. So it seemed good both for a quiet meal for two and for a slightly bigger gathering or work dinner.

Neatly plated Japanese food made in an open kitchen

Ichigyu Balsan Station Branch has an open kitchen, so you can catch glimpses of the food being made. Watching the dishes get plated, it really felt like a proper, neat Japanese restaurant. 🍱 It's a good spot to visit even if you're into Japanese food in general, not just gyukatsu.

Free rice refills

Since rice refills are free, I didn't have to worry about running out while eating meat. Haha. When you're eating gyukatsu, you keep going back and forth — one bite of meat, one spoonful of rice, right?~ Being able to eat as much rice as I wanted too made it a satisfying, filling meal.

The gyukatsu set looked so good just from the visuals alone!🙂 The crispy fried exterior and the cross-section of the thickly cut meat already looked perfect ,,

Gyukatsu set: crispy outside, juicy inside

The gyukatsu set I ordered came with cabbage, soup, and other sides alongside the sirloin gyukatsu. Eating it with the cabbage adds a crunchy texture, and having the soup alongside made the whole meal feel complete and satisfying.

The steak sirloin also came as a full set, so I could enjoy it with rice, cabbage, and soup just like the gyukatsu. With steak, you get more of the meat's own soft texture more intensely, so switching between the two dishes meant I never got tired of either. If you're a meat lover, I'd definitely recommend ordering both together!

How to eat gyukatsu the best way

Once the staff lights the burner and sets it up for you, all you have to do is put butter on it, grease the pan, and lay the gyukatsu on top! It already comes fried crispy on the outside, but being able to grill it in the pan to your preferred doneness is what makes this Balsan gyukatsu spot so charming 😆

The steak sirloin is seriously tender

I tried the steak sirloin first, and the meat was really tender and soft. It was delicious just eaten on its own, but laying the meat on top of rice to make a kind of meat sushi was really tasty too. .? Haha. If you're looking for good gyukatsu near Balsan Station and want to eat some great meat too, I'd recommend ordering the steak sirloin alongside it.

When you bite into the gyukatsu, it's crispy outside and juicy inside, and the sirloin was packed with so much flavorful juice that it was truly delicious. It's good with rice, good on its own, and pairs well with the sauce and sides too — I enjoyed it right down to the very last bite!
