Gate 8 sashimi takeout with a cooler pack in Jeju: Dutumhoe
In short
Dutumhoe Dongmun Market Main Branch is a sashimi and sushi takeout shop inside Gate 8 of the Dongmun Market night market in Jeju City. The order was mixed sashimi, mackerel pressed sushi and fried shrimp, laid out on the table back at the accommodation, with slices thick enough to taste chewy in a single bite. Find Gate 8 before diving into the crowded market, and ask Dutumhoe for a cooler pack if the trip to your stay takes more than 30 minutes.

Dongmun Market is a must-stop whenever you're traveling in Jeju. Wanting to enjoy fresh seafood comfortably back at the accommodation, I looked around for a sashimi takeout shop in Dongmun Market and ended up at Dutumhoe.

Even amid the lively bustle typical of a market, the clean and pleasant interior stood out — I liked it from the first impression.
Where is Dutumhoe Dongmun Market Main Branch?

Dutumhoe, which specializes in sashimi takeout at Dongmun Market, is easy to find once you come in through Gate 8. It's also close to Jeju International Airport, making it a great stop for packing food on your first or last day of the trip. Since the shop mainly insists on fresh wild fish caught by Jeju fishermen, I heard it's also a well-known favorite among locals.

Unlike typical traditional market stalls, the inside of the shop was kept very clean and hygienic.

As a shop specializing in sashimi and sushi for takeout, the effort put into keeping everything fresh was noticeable.

This time I packed mixed sashimi, mackerel pressed sushi, and crispy fried shrimp.
Tips for ordering sashimi takeout at Dongmun Market

Once I laid the packed food out on the table at the accommodation, it made for a really generous spread. Here's a practical tip: the inside of Dongmun Market is very crowded, so checking the location of Gate 8 in advance will cut down your walking time a lot. Also, if it takes more than 30 minutes to get from pickup to your accommodation, asking the shop to add an extra cooler pack really helps keep everything fresh.
How do the mixed sashimi, mackerel pressed sushi and fried shrimp taste?

First I tried the main dish, the mixed sashimi. The various types of sashimi were sliced thick, so even a single piece gave a full, chewy texture in the mouth. Being able to enjoy several kinds of fish at once was more than enough to soak in the freshness of the Jeju sea.

Next, the mackerel pressed sushi (godeungeo bong-chobap) had a charm all its own, quite different from regular sushi.

The mackerel's distinct savory flavor really came through, without any fishy taste, so it was clean and mild. Paired with the mixed sashimi among the Dongmun Market takeout menu, it made for a satisfying meal on its own.

Lastly, the crispy fried shrimp was a great side dish that added extra savoriness in between bites of sashimi. Crispy outside and moist inside, it's a flavor anyone would like. Overall, the whole lineup came together really well.
