Gijang cockle restaurant with serving robot refills: Kkomak Hansang

In short

Kkomak Hansang Gijang Main Branch is a Korean set-meal restaurant specializing in cockles, on the first floor of Morning City in the Oshiria tourist complex in Gijang, Busan. From a window seat we ordered the kkomak bibimbap (cockle rice bowl) and the yukjeon (pan-fried beef) set: fresh cockles shipped straight from Beolgyo filled more than half the bowl, and the 20-year secret soy sauce seasoning tasted deeply savory rather than salty. When the perilla leaves ran out, a kiosk request sent a serving robot over with a refill, and the mall parking lot gives 2 hours free, so Kkomak Hansang slots easily into a Gijang sightseeing day.

I'm honestly obsessed with cockles, so when I had a reason to swing by Gijang, I finally made it to Kkomak Hansang Gijang Main Branch, a place famous for cockles 🦪

Window seats on the first floor of Morning City in Oshiria

Exterior of Kkomak Hansang Gijang Main Branch on the 1st floor of Morning City

Kkomak Hansang sits on the first floor of the Morning City building, right in the heart of the Oshiria tourist district in Dongbusan, Gijang, with a clean, modern facade 🏢 Walking inside, the first things that greeted me were potted plants and sunlight pouring through the floor-to-ceiling windows! The whole space felt bright and spotless, which put me in a good mood the moment I walked in ☀️

There's a kiosk at the entrance for registering your wait! Weekends or peak hours can mean a long line, so I'd recommend checking the wait status on Catch Table before you visit.

The interior is especially sleek, with a huge wall of windows across the front, so I actually had trouble deciding where to sit ✨

Dining hall interior with a full wall of windows

Each seating area is well divided by partitions, so it felt private while eating! There are plenty of seats and lots of wide tables, so it looked totally fine for family gatherings or group tourists 👏

I grabbed a window seat with warm sunlight pouring in! It had such a strong café vibe I almost forgot this was a cockle restaurant 🌿

The tables and chairs are stylish too, so basically any spot gives you an Instagram-worthy shot!

Looking out the window, the Lotte Outlet Dongbusan was so close behind the building it felt like I could touch it! Great location for a meal before or after shopping 🛍️

Cockle bibimbap and yukjeon set: side dishes and cockles in vinegar sauce

📖 I ordered the cockle bibimbap and the beef pancake set. Not long after ordering, the whole spread filled the table!

Neatly arranged Korean side dishes
Cockle salad served as a basic side dish

Just the number of dishes made it feel like a fancy hanjeongsik (traditional set-meal) restaurant, each side dish so neatly prepared my jaw dropped...🍚 They even served cockle salad as a basic side dish! At that point it felt less like a meal and more like a cockle party...😋

Bowl of cockle bibimbap piled with cockles

Fresh Beolgyo cockles and the 20-year secret soy sauce seasoning

The star of the show, cockle bibimbap! More than half of the generous bowl was overflowing with plump cockles — the visuals alone were overwhelming 💥

Maybe because it's made only with fresh cockles shipped daily from Beolgyo in South Jeolla, the texture was firm and sweet in a way that felt like art! The 20-year secret soy sauce blend adds deep savoriness without being salty, and it just clings to everything perfectly 💯

Close-up of plump cockles mixed into the sauce

I got curious and looked it up — apparently a single cockle has about 1g of protein! I've been pretty serious about protein lately, so I found myself counting cockles while happily inhaling them 😋

Golden-grilled beef pancake with shredded green onion

Pan-fried beef, perilla leaf wraps and a serving robot refill

The beef pancake that came with the bibimbap set was grilled to a golden, savory finish! Paired with the shredded green onion on top, the tender meat juices and onion aroma were fantastic....👍

Piling a big scoop of cockle bibimbap and beef pancake onto a perilla leaf and wrapping it all up in one bite is basically heaven 💯

Perilla leaf wrap topped with cockle bibimbap and beef pancake

We ran low on perilla leaves mid-meal, so I requested more through the kiosk, and it was so cute watching a serving robot bring them over on its own 🤖
