There are days when I just crave pho, and this time I went for a Vietnamese lunch near Ajou University. The place had a real Hanoi vibe going on, so it almost felt like I was traveling. It seemed great for a hearty daytime meal, and just as good for Vietnamese food with a drink in the evening.
Where is Madam Hao, and is there parking?
Located at 49 World Cup-ro 193beon-gil, Yeongtong-gu, Suwon, Madam Hao wasn't hard to find near Ajou University.
Free parking is available right next to the restaurant, so it was convenient to visit by car, and group use and reservations were also possible.

Walking through the door at Madam Hao, I got a real Vietnamese local-restaurant feeling. It was comfortable overall but neatly arranged, and with the door left open, outside air drifted in giving it a bit of an outdoor night market vibe. I imagine it would feel even better on a nice-weather day.

What came out as the default side was a crispy fried snack, kind of like shrimp chips. Good for light snacking and nice for getting your appetite going before the pho arrived.
Kimchi, chili, pickled radish, and lemon were also set out, so you could add them according to your taste.

Madam Hao's beef brisket pho is ₩11,000, and the light yet deep broth flavor was amazing!! Rather than being intensely salty or heavy, the broth went down clean, so I kept eating without any heaviness.
There was plenty of softly cooked brisket, and the rice noodles matched the broth well — chewy and delicious.
Adding a little chili and lemon changed the broth's flavor again, so it never got boring until the last spoonful.
If you're looking for a clean, light lunch near Ajou University, this menu fits perfectly.
Beef jjamppong pho, 12,000 won: the pick if spices put you off
Madam Hao's beef jjamppong pho is ₩12,000, and it definitely had a noticeably spicier kick than the beef brisket pho.
The broth had a spicy savory depth, good for eating almost like a hangover cure, and it matched the soft rice noodles well!
It wasn't a one-note spicy style — you got the deep broth flavor first, and the heat crept up gently afterward.
Totally recommend this one for anyone who loves spicy broth, or who usually can't handle Vietnamese food because of the spices.
