Extra modan-myeon noodles at Jojo, a Mullae teppanyaki restaurant

In short

Jojo Mullae Branch is a Japanese teppanyaki restaurant in the Mullae Changjakchon art alley in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul. The signature 3-person set at Jojo Mullae Branch brought waterfall potato, Jojo okonomiyaki with extra modan-myeon (thick noodles), donpeyaki and a double portion of Jojo yakisoba with whole shrimp, all grilled on the built-in teppan at the table. Today I visited a hot spot in the Mullae-dong Changjakchon (art village) alley where you can enjoy proper, authentic Japanese teppanyaki. It's a place that delights both eyes and mouth — watching okonomiyaki come together fresh on the big griddle right in front of you, and tasting yakisoba packed with umami. This is my visit report on Jojo Mullae Branch, already a buzzing Mullae lunch spot run by the owner featured as the "Teppan Captain" on Netflix's Culinary Class Wars Season 2.

Where is Jojo Mullae Branch, and where do you park?

Jojo Mullae Branch is a 5-minute walk from Exit 1 of Mullae Station (Line 2), heading toward the Mullae Neighborhood Park intersection. It's in the alley across from Loft House Cafe, and the clean English signage stands out right away against the vintage red-brick facade of the building.

A standee poster out front showing the Netflix series Culinary Class Wars Season 2 "Teppan Captain" appearance built up my expectations before I even walked in. If you're driving, parking at the restaurant itself is difficult, so it's more convenient to use the public parking lot at Mullae Neighborhood Park, just a minute's walk away.

Inside Jojo Mullae Branch: teppan grills built into every table

Inside Jojo Mullae Branch, each table has a large teppan grill built right in, so you can keep your food warm all the way through the meal. There's a good range of seating too — 2-person, 4-person, and group tables.

Walking inside, a spacious, comfortable hall opened up with tall rafter ceilings and soft lighting. The brick interior paired with wood-tone furniture created a cozy atmosphere that felt like stepping into an actual okonomiyaki restaurant in Japan. It was a really pleasant setting, whether for a quiet date with a partner or a Mullae lunch out with friends.

Starter: waterfall potato

We ordered the signature 3-person set, which lets you try a variety of signature dishes at once. The first thing served was waterfall potato, a dish whose name alone stirs up curiosity.

The waterfall potato appetizer, eye-catching from the first look

Waterfall potato topped with soft-boiled egg and onion flakes

A soft-boiled egg sat atop a tower of creamy potato salad, surrounded by a nest of crispy fried onion flakes. Popping the egg yolk let it cascade down over the potato like a waterfall, and the sharp tang of whole grain mustard paired with the crunchy fried texture gave a refreshing start to the meal.

Jojo okonomiyaki with extra modan-myeon noodles

Now for the main dish — Jojo okonomiyaki. It arrived as a generous bowl packed with fresh shredded cabbage, plump shrimp, chewy squid, and pork.

To make it heartier, we added chewy modan-myeon (thick fried noodle add-in). On the hot tableside teppan, the staff layered the cabbage batter with the modan-myeon and then generously piled on thin bonito flakes.

Once it was cooked through, they flipped the okonomiyaki over with a dedicated spatula to reveal a golden, crisply browned surface. On top went a generous swirl of soft white mayonnaise and sweet-savory house okonomiyaki sauce, finished with a heap of fragrant chopped scallions for a perfect finish. Just watching it sizzle away was enough to make my mouth water.

What do the modan-myeon noodles taste like?

Rich fillings in harmony with chewy modan-myeon

Using the dedicated teppan spatula, we cut it into four bite-sized pieces and served them onto our plates. Inside that thick slab was sweet cabbage that still had some crunch, plump seafood, and savory pork juices packed throughout. The added modan-myeon in particular had soaked up the sauce beautifully — crisp on the outside, chewy on the inside, an amazing texture. The rich sauce and sharp scallion garnish cut through the richness completely, so we kept eating with delight, never once getting tired of it.

Donpeyaki, the omelette course in the set

The donpeyaki that came with the set arrived on a long, neat plate. Over a thin, fluffy egg sheet, mayonnaise and sauce were drizzled in a pretty wave pattern.

Peeling back the cross-section with chopsticks revealed golden-cooked pork belly, crisply stir-fried cabbage, and green onion hidden inside. The soft egg's flavor, the savory pork, and the sweetness of the vegetables came together in perfect balance — a flavor that anyone, of any age, would love without complaint.

Jojo yakisoba double: whole shrimp and smoky char

The last dish, Jojo yakisoba double, was so massive in portion that even the wide plate looked barely big enough. Savory beef, plump tiger shrimp, cabbage, and bean sprouts were stir-fried over high heat with the house sauce, and a subtle smoky char drifted across as it arrived.

We popped the yolk of the plump fried egg on top and mixed it evenly into the noodles. The thick, chewy noodles were deeply soaked in a sweet-savory sauce, and the big shrimp had that springy, bursting texture with every bite. The crunchy bean sprouts and vegetables were added generously, and the balance of textures alongside the noodles was artful. Everything about this dish was hearty and harmonious — the best plate to finish off a filling, satisfying Mullae lunch for three.

Is the 3-person set at Jojo Mullae Branch worth it?

Jojo Mullae Branch is a place where you can experience Mullae-dong's distinctive hip vibe together with the deep flavors of authentic Japanese teppanyaki. From the live cooking performance of the okonomiyaki unfolding right in front of you, to the chewiness of the fully loaded modan-myeon, the smoky char of the yakisoba, the soft donpeyaki, and the unusual waterfall potato — every single dish was executed perfectly. Being able to enjoy such carefully made teppan dishes in a clean, comfortable setting makes this a spot I'd recommend without hesitation for anyone looking for a Mullae lunch or a date course.
