Seoul Korean BBQ in Jongno 3-ga: 5:15pm outdoor seat, Tapgol Gongwon
In short
Tapgol Gongwon Jongno 3-ga Branch is an outdoor Korean BBQ restaurant with a stone-wall view on Supyo-ro, by Jongno 3-ga Station in Jongno, Seoul. Arriving at 5:15pm on a weekday just barely got an outdoor table at Tapgol Gongwon for frozen pork belly at 18,000 won, frozen pork neck at 19,000 won, beef brisket doenjang stew (soybean paste stew) and kimchi fried rice pressed onto the grill; by 6:20pm, 50 groups were waiting. The stone wall is the whole reason to sit outside, so come early if you want one of those tables.

The weather's been so good lately!! I hated the idea of eating indoors on a day like this, so I went looking for an outdoor BBQ spot, and found this one. Most Jongno outdoor BBQ places have you sitting in a narrow alley people-watching, but this place has a stone-wall view, and the vibe was amazing. I picked this Jongno 3-ga outdoor BBQ restaurant, Tapgol Gongwon, purely for that stone-wall view, so here's my review~

Tapgol Gongwon Jongno 3-ga Branch is an easy walk from Jongno 3-ga Station. I arrived around 5:15pm on a weekday and... wait, the outdoor tables were already almost full!! Luckily a few seats were left so we sat right down, but by 5:30pm a waiting line had already started forming.

We finished up and left around 6:20pm, and by then the wait was a whopping 50 teams....haha. If you're visiting on a nice-weather day, I really, really recommend getting there early!
What are the stone-wall outdoor tables like?

This is the biggest reason I picked this place! The atmosphere of the outdoor seating💛

Rather than being packed shoulder-to-shoulder among crowds, grilling meat while looking at the stone wall made the whole vibe so much better.
Menu and prices at Tapgol Gongwon Jongno 3-ga

The menu ranged from pork belly and pork neck to duck roast, beef brisket, beef short rib, and beef skirt steak, and there were also set menus if you want to try several kinds.
- Frozen pork belly ₩18,000
- Frozen flower pork neck ₩19,000
- Kimchi fried rice ₩6,000
- Beef brisket doenjang stew ₩7,000
- Rice ₩1,000
- Coke ₩2,000
There were two of us, and we ordered frozen pork belly, frozen flower pork neck, beef brisket doenjang stew, kimchi fried rice, one rice, and one coke!
Picnic-basket cutlery and the self-serve banchan bar

The outdoor tables are set up in connected pairs, and between the two tables there's something like a picnic basket holding spoons, chopsticks, wet wipes, paper cups, and various glasses, all neatly arranged. It was cute and felt like a thoughtful touch!

The basic side dishes were kimchi, bean sprouts, bracken fern, chive kimchi, salted seafood, ssamjang (soybean-chili dipping sauce), wasabi, garlic, chili peppers, and pepper. You can grab more from the self-serve bar if you run out, and it also had lettuce for wraps and sesame oil~

Frozen pork belly or frozen pork neck: which was better?
First the frozen pork belly came out, and the portion looked bigger than I expected!

Grilling meat while looking at the stone wall, with the weather this good — this must be what outdoor BBQ is all about, haha

The pork belly tastes good just grilled plain, but it's next level once you shake on some pepper!! Grilling kimchi and bean sprouts alongside it and eating them with the pork belly was seriously delicious.

We also ordered the flower pork neck to try, but personally, pork belly wins!! Next time I go, I think I'll just order the pork belly haha
Beef brisket doenjang stew and kimchi fried rice on the grill

The beef brisket doenjang stew (soybean paste stew) we ordered alongside the meat was spicy and hearty! Taking a bite between rounds of meat washed away the greasiness left in my mouth. It also went great with a bowl of rice.

We were already full, but skipping fried rice would've been a shame, right...? So in the end we ordered the kimchi fried rice too lol

It came topped with a soft fried egg and dried seaweed flakes — mix it all together, then spread it flat on the grill and press it down, that's a must!! Eaten plain it was a little underwhelming, but once the bottom got pressed and crispy it was so much better.
The verdict on Tapgol Gongwon Jongno 3-ga in one line
I went looking for an outdoor BBQ spot on a nice-weather day, and grilling meat with that stone-wall view gave me exactly the outdoor vibe I wanted~ That said, even on the weekday I visited, the evening wait was massive, so if you want an outdoor table, get there early, no matter what...!! If you're looking for a Jongno 3-ga outdoor BBQ restaurant to enjoy frozen pork belly with a stone-wall view on a nice day, I recommend Tapgol Gongwon Jongno 3-ga Branch~! Would revisit ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
