Seongdong Korean BBQ, staff-grilled pork belly at Pujutgan

In short

Pujutgan Saenggogi-jeom is a Korean BBQ restaurant in Seongdong, Seoul. I had pork belly, pork jowl, kimchi stew, and chilled buckwheat noodles with a friend who does not eat much. Verdict: the staff grilling and surprisingly good naengmyeon made this a revisit-worthy meal.

It had been a while since I last visited Pujutgan Saenggogi-jeom (푸줏간생고기점) in Haengdang-dong😊 I remembered enjoying it before, so this time I went back for pork belly with a friend who does not eat much. 📍 If you are looking for a pork belly place in Haengdang-dong, it is worth stopping by at least once.

A cozy neighborhood Korean BBQ atmosphere

Even from the exterior, it had that unmistakable feeling of an old local favorite~ Rather than being flashy or sleek, it had the warm, familiar atmosphere of a neighborhood meat restaurant, which made it easy to settle in and enjoy the meat. The inside also had that comforting, old-school Korean BBQ restaurant vibe😊 Each table comes with a grill, and you cook the meat right there.

Pork belly and pork jowl with my small-eating friend

Since I was visiting with a friend who does not eat much, we decided not to order too much and keep it simple.

  • 1 serving of samgyeopsal (pork belly)
  • 1 serving of hangjeongsal (pork jowl)

That was exactly what the two of us ordered! Honestly, I wanted to try more things, but my friend cannot eat a lot, so sadly we started modestly today😂

The basic side dishes set out for the meat

Once we ordered the meat, the side dishes started arriving one by one. There was kimchi, garlic, ssam vegetables for wrapping, and other basics that go so well with grilled meat. The kimchi and garlic you simply cannot leave out when eating meat were ready too👍 Just getting ready to grill had my excitement rising already!

The staff grill the meat for you

One of the nice things about Pujutgan Saenggogi-jeom! The staff grill the meat for you👏 At Korean BBQ restaurants, trying to time the grilling and eating can get hectic, so it was great to be able to relax and eat while they handled it. They put the pork belly and pork jowl on the grill and cooked them to a lovely golden brown🤤

Potatoes and kimchi grilled alongside

They did not just put meat on the grill—they added potatoes, kimchi, onions, and mushrooms too. Potatoes cooked in pork fat? Need I say more😍 With golden potatoes, grilled onions, and kimchi alongside, the whole experience of eating the meat became even better. Pork belly really is at its best grilled with kimchi like this!

The fun of alternating pork belly and pork jowl

Finally, the pork belly was cooked and ready to eat! Crisp and golden on the outside yet moist inside, it was delicious when I picked up a piece🤤 The pork jowl had a satisfyingly chewy texture, giving it a charm quite different from the pork belly. The pork belly was savory and clean-tasting, while the pork jowl was nice and springy! Alternating between the two kept the meal interesting and delicious.

Unlimited kimchi stew and noodle conditions

And of course, beer could not be left out🍺 Pairing a cold beer with beautifully grilled pork belly gave the day a proper mukbang feel, haha. A bite of meat followed by a sip of beer—this combination really is unbeatable😆

We also ordered kimchi stew to have with the meat. Pujutgan Saenggogi-jeom says that if you order according to the number of diners, it offers unlimited kimchi stew as well as soybean paste stew, scorched-rice soup, banquet noodles, bibim-naengmyeon (spicy mixed buckwheat noodles), and mul-naengmyeon (chilled buckwheat noodles in broth). The selection was so varied that I wondered whether a service like this could really be possible😳 Do note, though, that if you do not order by the number of diners, only the stews are unlimited!

Tangy kimchi stew

First, we tried the kimchi stew. The bubbling stew even had meat in it. It retained kimchi's distinctive tart, sour flavor, so it was great to spoon up between bites of meat. It cut through the richness of the pork and had that flavor that makes you want rice! Pork belly and kimchi stew are truly a combination that never fails👍

Mul-naengmyeon that was better than expected

Honestly, I wanted to try more things, but eating with my small-eating friend meant I was already pretty full😂 Still, you cannot give up naengmyeon after meat! So we ordered one mul-naengmyeon to finish.

Mul-naengmyeon ordered for dessert

I ordered it without high expectations, but I was surprised after trying it. The broth was cool and clean, and it was really delicious with the noodles. Maybe because it came at the end of a meat meal, it felt like it refreshed and cleared my palate! It was so good that I found myself wondering, “Is this a naengmyeon specialist?”😋 Next time, I am going to arrive with a little more room in my stomach and properly enjoy the naengmyeon too.

Returning to Pujutgan Saenggogi-jeom after a while

Back at Pujutgan Saenggogi-jeom in Haengdang-dong after a long time! The pork belly and pork jowl were delicious, the staff grilling the meat made everything easy, and above all, the option to enjoy unlimited dishes from kimchi stew onward was memorable. In particular, ordering by the number of diners gets you unlimited not only stews but also naengmyeon, banquet noodles, and scorched-rice soup, which is really appealing👏 Next time, I need to bring a big-eater friend instead of my small-eating friend🤣 Then I want to eat more pork belly, more pork jowl, and really make the most of the naengmyeon too!
