Charcoal Korean BBQ in Sharosu-gil, Seoul: Korean beef chadolbagi

In short

Gogigupneunsaramdeul Sharosu-gil is a charcoal-grill Korean BBQ restaurant on Sharosu-gil, about 466m from Exit 1 of Seoul National University Station in Gwanak, Seoul. On a late weekend evening the wait was about 5 minutes, and the meal was the pork shoulder set with two add-ons, Korean beef chadolbagi (thinly sliced brisket) and the volcano egg soufflé, plus aged kimchi jjigae and the self-serve sauce bar. The meat quality, the self-serve bar and the stew were all satisfying, making Gogigupneunsaramdeul Sharosu-gil a solid choice for a beef-and-pork dinner near Seoul National University Station.

On a weekend evening, I was craving a proper meat meal, so I headed to Sharosu-gil near Seoul National University Station!! It's a neighborhood famous for good restaurants tucked into its alleys, and among them I went to Gogigupneunsaramdeul Sharosu-gil, known as a charcoal-grill specialist.

Sharosu-gil is an alley near Seoul National University Station, its name a mashup of the 'Sha' symbol at the university's main gate and Gangnam's 'Garosu-gil'!! An old neighborhood market has gradually filled with distinctive restaurants, and now it's one of Seoul's go-to hotspots!

The banchan (side dishes) arrived right away!!!! Extra sides were available self-serve haha

There were so many sauce options too! Spicy pepper muchim, gimjohim, dried radish, and even breadcrumbs and tonkatsu sauce!

How the pork shoulder tastes grilled, and the highball pairing

Shoulder is the cut between the flap steak and chuck flap tail, dense with marbling and juicy! Gogigupneunsaramdeul's meat looked great just from the color~

We grilled it up sizzling and dug in!!! The grill plate was also easier to cook on than I expected, which I liked.

The house highball showed up soon after!! Simple and solid, it paired perfectly with the fatty meat.

I always love eating meat with soy sauce and onions haha, what's everyone's favorite combo!! My husband loves wraps lol — piling on tons of vegetables with one piece of meat and taking a huge bite!!!

The set stew: aged kimchi jjigae

For the set stew, we could choose between aged kimchi jjigae or doenjang jjigae, and we went with the spicy aged kimchi version! With scallions and cheongyang chili in it, it definitely had that spicy, deep broth flavor haha

What is the volcano egg soufflé?

The volcano egg soufflé!! It's a steamed egg dish that comes with a spicy sauce, and inside there was plenty of cheese too haha. It stretched and stretched — absolutely perfect!
