Dongtan baby-friendly Chinese restaurant, 9-month-old in tow: Bultina

Our family had a really good meal out today! Now that we're eating out with a baby, there are two things I always check first when picking a restaurant: whether they have a baby chair, and whether parking is convenient.

I need somewhere to sit the baby, and I'm carrying a stroller around, so I always check those two things! This time we went to Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong, and it passed both tests. So here's the review of our delicious meal!!

Where is Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch, and where do you park?

Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch is at 149 Nojak-ro, 1F, Dongtan-gu, Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do, near Dongtan Namgwangjang, open 10:40–21:00. For parking, you can use the Daeun public parking lot right in front of the restaurant.

You get 90 minutes of free parking, so I didn't have to worry much about parking during the meal. Even though we came during weekend lunch hours, there were still open spots. It wasn't a chaotic parking lot at all!

Does Bultina have a baby chair and space for a stroller?

Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch has baby chairs, so we could eat comfortably with our 9-month-old. There was also space in one corner of the restaurant to park the stroller.

One of the biggest reasons I picked this place was the baby chair. These days it's hard to go anywhere without one when eating out with the baby, ㅠㅠ But Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong had baby chairs, so we could eat comfortably with our 9-month-old.

Another thing I liked: the inside was bigger than I expected! Right at the entrance, there was plenty of space between tables, and the distance to the next table didn't feel cramped at all.

There was even enough room in one corner to park the stroller, which made me feel so much more at ease haha.

Kiosk ordering at Bultina: each dish is cooked after you pay

At Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch, you order through the tablet kiosk on the table, and once you pay by card, the order goes in. Since cooking starts right after the order goes in, it's not the super-fast, food-appears-instantly type of place.

Looking at the menu board, prices were generally on the affordable side! It had that honest, no-frills restaurant feel haha. The menu had just what it needed and nothing more — clean and simple! Since jjamppong is the main event, it looked like the menu board of a place that really knows its jjamppong.

You order through the kiosk on the table. And since the order goes in once you finish paying by card, there's no need to flag down staff to order, which is convenient.

Since cooking only starts once the order goes in, the food doesn't come out lightning-fast. But honestly, I didn't mind. Cooking right after the order goes in, instead of serving food that was made ahead of time, felt better in terms of taste and freshness, haha. It can be a bit tough waiting for food with a baby around, but on this day my husband and I could just chat while we waited, so it was fine :)

They even gave us a free side dish through a receipt event, haha.

How spicy is level 1 cockle jjamppong, and how is the jajangmyeon?

What we ordered this time was cockle jjamppong at spice level 1 and jajangmyeon (black bean noodles). Since cockle jjamppong is Bultina's signature dish, and this was our first visit, I definitely wanted to try it.

For the cockle jjamppong you can choose from several spice levels, and since I'm not really into super spicy food, I picked level 1 without much thought. There are 4 levels in total. If you're a first-time visitor, I'd say pick based on your own spice tolerance.

The cockle jjamppong finally arrived! Visually, I was surprised by just how many cockles were in there, lol. Not just cockles — there were scallops too, so it was basically a full-on seafood jjamppong. I thought a cockle jjamppong would just have a ton of cockles, but with scallops in there too, every bite had something fun to chew on, haha (seafood lovers will love this). If you're a fan of cockles, this place is honestly a treat!

When I eat jjamppong, I actually care more about the broth than the noodles, lol. This broth was rich but also clean-tasting, which I really liked. It wasn't just aggressively spicy — you could taste the flavor coming from the seafood, and the broth itself was quite rich, so my spoon kept going back for more.

As for the level 1 spice I ordered — by my standards, it was about as spicy as Shin Ramyun. Not too spicy, just spicy enough to be delicious! I paired it with a zero-sugar cola and it was perfect, lol.

And the jajangmyeon we ordered alongside it! Honestly, since cockle jjamppong is the signature dish, I didn't expect much from the jajangmyeon. But it turned out to be surprisingly good?! It's not a jajangmyeon loaded with fancy ingredients, but more like it nails the basics well, haha. The sweetness wasn't overly strong or artificial-tasting — it had a mild, savory deliciousness. I actually found this style easier to enjoy. Especially since it's cooked right after ordering, it somehow tasted even better.

Is Bultina worth it with a 9-month-old baby?

So the conclusion is... the two of us ate so well that we cleaned our bowls, lol. When you go out with a baby, you're often so busy taking care of them that the parents end up rushing through their own meal, but this time we actually got to eat well and enjoy it, which made me happy!

Looking around the restaurant, there were quite a lot of other diners too. Seeing a steady stream of customers made me think this must be a well-known jjamppong spot around Namgwangjang.

And a coffee after the meal, sipped down happily!! Both the jjamppong and jajangmyeon were delicious, and the baby waited so patiently, making it a happy lunchtime. Keep waiting patiently like this while mom and dad eat, okay? I hope this was even a little bit helpful for anyone looking for a place to eat out with a baby :)
