Dongjak Korean BBQ restaurant with spicy noodles: Bareun Hwangso
In short
Bareun Hwangso Gopchang is a Korean BBQ restaurant in Dongjak, Seoul, near Sadang Station Exit 10. I visited with a friend and Jui, enjoyed pre-grilled assorted gopchang, fried rice, and spicy Buldak Ttongttongmyeon. A convenient pick for gopchang and drinks without the grilling work.

Bareun Hwangso Gopchang near Sadang Station Exit 10

When I’m craving gopchang (grilled beef intestines), I really can’t leave Sadang Station out of the equation! I was studying at a café with a friend when we wanted gopchang, so I looked for somewhere that allows pets!!! This time, I went to Bareun Hwangso Gopchang (바른황소곱창), near Sadang Station Exit 10. From gopchang to daechang (beef large intestine), makchang (beef fourth stomach), and beef heart, there was plenty to enjoy—and sides included fried rice as well as the unusual Buldak Ttongttongmyeon—so we ate properly :)
Head into an alley near Sadang Station and Bareun Hwangso Gopchang really catches your eye! It had just the right atmosphere for gopchang and a shot of soju after work, haha. Sadang Station itself is an easy place to arrange a meet-up, so it looked good for a company dinner or gathering with friends too, and felt like a great gopchang spot for the evening!

Right from the entrance, the signs prominently featured gopchang alongside cold draft beer and Buldak Ttongttongmyeon, so naturally I started wanting it all haha.

The interior was small, but it wasn’t overly crowded! Even though it was a weekday, there were quite a few people, haha.
Assorted gopchang and banchan

The menu included assorted gopchang, Korean beef gopchang, Korean beef daechang, Korean beef heart, and makchang. The assorted gopchang was ₩24,000 per person and lets you taste gopchang, daechang, and makchang all at once!

Once you order, you get banchan (Korean side dishes) that go well with the gopchang. Gopchang has such a rich, oily, nutty flavor on its own, so having these sides in between is nice for refreshing your palate 🫶🏻🫶🏻
When you keep eating different cuts, things can get a little rich, but there was such a variety of things to eat alongside them that I didn’t get tired of it until the end!

Pets are welcome too, so I came with Jui 💗💗

And before the gopchang came out, a bowl of warm soup! It had bean sprouts and Cheongyang chili peppers, so it was clean-tasting with a pleasant spicy kick!! You know that feeling when a sip of hot broth resets you midway through eating gopchang, right??? Haha.
Pre-grilled assorted gopchang on an iron griddle

Wow, what is this visual.. ✨✨

The huge iron griddle was generously piled with gopchang, daechang, beef heart, potatoes, onions, garlic chives, and more—such a good visual 👍

What I loved most was that it came out perfectly cooked from the kitchen. At gopchang restaurants, it can be hard to focus on conversation while constantly flipping and grilling, but here you can comfortably eat as soon as it arrives, which was lovely 💗

The gopchang was nicely browned on the outside, so it was chewy yet nutty when I bit into it! Eating it with garlic chives cut through the richness beautifully, so the combination was great. If you love gopchang, it’s a familiar but satisfying flavor.

And then there was daechang, which I personally love just as much as gopchang! Once browned, it releases its distinctive, rich, nutty fat flavor the moment it goes into your mouth! The outside was grilled slightly crisp while the inside stayed moist and tender, so the contrast in texture was great too, haha.

Ending with fried rice and Buldak Ttongttongmyeon
Once you’ve eaten a fair amount of gopchang, the Korean way to finish is, of course, fried rice. The fried rice with seasoning and roasted seaweed flakes was spicy and nutty, and I kept eating even though I was already fairly full. Personally, the fried rice here was legendary!!!!!

It was especially delicious to put a leftover piece of gopchang or daechang on top of the fried rice and eat them together. With the nutty flavor of the intestines plus the spicy fried rice, it felt like we ate well right through to the end!

And then, the Buldak Ttongttongmyeon that I’d really wanted to try here! As its name suggests, it has thicker noodles than regular ramyeon, thoroughly coated in spicy seasoning. It’s sweet and spicy with a definite fiery heat, so it pairs incredibly well with rich food like gopchang!
Bareun Hwangso Gopchang was a great place to visit when I was craving gopchang around Sadang Station! It was convenient that everything came out perfectly grilled from the kitchen, so there was no need to worry about cooking it yourself, and it was fun to grill and eat the garlic chives, onions, and potatoes together with the gopchang and daechang on the iron griddle. If you’re looking for somewhere near Sadang Station to have drinks with friends, hold an after-work company dinner, or go on a gopchang date, I think it would be worth a visit :)
