Hapjeong café for laptop work and affogato: Petrico

In short

Petrico is a spacious dessert café near Hapjeong Station in Mapo, Seoul. I tried a bright, acidic Americano, a pour-it-yourself affogato, and a fruit soufflé made to order in about 15 minutes. Verdict: a comfortable pick for solo laptop time, dates, and a leisurely dessert.

A visit to Petrico café

Looking for a spacious, comfortable café by Hapjeong Station?

Today I went to Petrico, a café by Hapjeong Station! I had fruit soufflé and coffee, and the space was so pretty and comfortable that I wanted to introduce it. It is in a red-brick building with big windows, and the leafy trees around the entrance add such a nice touch too. I loved the lighting and the overall feel of the exterior as well.

Once you step inside, the interior is spacious. There are quite a few large tables too. The café is roomy with high ceilings, so I loved that open, refreshing feeling as soon as I walked in.

If you are looking for a spacious café in Hapjeong, this is one to keep in mind. There was a good range of seating, from small tables to spots where several people could sit together. The warm wood-toned tables and chairs worked beautifully with the softly lit lamps, and there were flowers on the tables and plants dotted around, so there was plenty to look at too. I really like this kind of wood-filled interior. Maybe it is the calming colors, but it was also lovely for sitting back with coffee and taking a break, haha.

A nice atmosphere for solo laptop work too

There were quite a few people studying or working on laptops alone. Some visitors had come in pairs or groups to work on assignments, while others were chatting. Even with customers around when I visited, it never felt overly hectic or noisy. There was just the right amount of background sound, so I thought it would suit anyone looking for a café for laptop work too! It felt perfectly natural to come and settle in alone.

How long do you wait for the fruit soufflé?

That day, we ordered the fruit soufflé, affogato, and Americano! There was also a sign for the soufflé platter by the entrance. It is a menu that dessert and brunch lovers would probably be interested in. The soufflé is made as soon as you order, so it takes about 15 minutes to prepare. If you want one, leave yourself a little extra time before visiting! If you are only stopping by for a quick coffee, it would be good to keep the preparation time in mind before ordering!

An acidic Americano and a pour-it-yourself affogato

First out were the Americano and affogato. For the affogato, the ice cream and coffee came separately so we could pour it ourselves. They looked so pretty served in glass cups. And I really liked the Americano here! I could choose the beans, so I ordered beans with acidity, and they suited my taste perfectly. I came for dessert but fell for the coffee, haha.

A generous fruit soufflé with fruit and cream

And then, the fruit soufflé we had been waiting for! Two thick soufflés come on one plate with fruit-topped bread and cream. It was more generous than I expected. The round little soufflés were just too cute, haha. With the white powder dusted over the top and all the fruit colors, the plate looked so bright and pretty. When I am looking for great desserts in Hongdae, a visual like this catches my eye even more ><

Up close, you can see that the soufflés are quite thick. The outside is nicely golden and the sides look so fluffy, right?? I poured the syrup that came separately over the top too. The photos come out beautifully and the café atmosphere is lovely, so it seemed like a great place for a dessert date. If coffee alone feels a little lacking after a meal, I think it would be nice to order a soufflé to share with it!

Fluffy, soft inside

This is what it looked like inside after cutting into it. It was seriously so, so fluffy! It was really soft when I cut it with my fork and ate it. Maybe because it was handmade fresh to order, I enjoyed it even more. I guess this soft texture is exactly why we eat soufflé, haha. Since it was thick, the fluffy interior really showed in every slice. It is a menu item I would recommend to anyone looking for a great soufflé.

I ate it with the fruit and cream too. One bite with a blueberry on top~ You can cut up the bread on the side and eat that too. I liked that the plate brought together soufflé, fruit, and bread, so there were lots of little things to enjoy together.

A Hapjeong café to enjoy for both the space and dessert

Petrico was a lovely stop for soufflé and coffee together when looking for great desserts in Hongdae. It would work well as a café for working alone or as a Hongdae café where two people can sit and chat. What stayed with me most was how spacious and comfortable it felt. We enjoyed soft soufflé and tasty coffee in a pretty space, then headed home~ It had been a while since our little couple date, hehe.
