Solo dining malatang at level 2 spice with panda fenzi: Rahongbang

In short

Rahongbang Malatang Suwon Cheoncheon Branch is a malatang (spicy Sichuan hot pot noodle) restaurant on the first floor of Sehwa Plaza in Cheoncheon-dong, Jangan-gu, Suwon. Solo seats and phone stands make it easy to eat alone, level 2 spice was about as hot as Shin Ramyun, and the solo-portion kkwabaerou (sweet and sour pork) came with 5 pieces. Meat and skewers are charged by weight too, so it's a place where you can pile on ingredients without worrying about the bill.

I eat malatang pretty often, so I've been to quite a few malatang places around Suwon! This time I visited Rahongbang Malatang Suwon Cheoncheon Branch. Honestly, the moment I walked in I was like "wait, why are there so many kinds of ingredients?" — out of all the malatang places I've been to, this one really had the widest variety!

Rahongbang Malatang Suwon Cheoncheon Branch: location and hours

Rahongbang Malatang Suwon Cheoncheon Branch is located near Suwon Station! I visited after watching a movie at Starfield that day.

  • 🚗 Parking: nearby paid parking lots

Where should you park?

This isn't a place with its own free parking lot — you use nearby paid parking instead!

Entrance to a paid parking lot near the restaurant

You can use floors 3–6 of Sehwa Parking Tower — the first 5 minutes are free, then ₩1,000 per 20 minutes, with a daily max of ₩15,000.

But here's a tip! The Cheongyeong Building parking lot nearby is actually cheaper. And on weekdays you can park along the street nearby (only from 11:00 to 14:00). Worth keeping in mind depending on when you visit 🚗

Solo seats and phone stands, great for eating alone

Inside, there was a good range of seating — from solo seats to group tables.

And they've even set up phone stands for solo diners... 👏 nice touch.

A lot of people watch videos while eating alone, right? I've often struggled with where to prop my phone when eating solo, so I thought it was a really thoughtful little detail haha

Menu and solo-portion options

The menu had all kinds of things — kkwabaerou (sweet and sour pork), cream shrimp, fried rice, and more!

Menu board listing kkwabaerou and cream shrimp

Especially for solo diners, there were a lot of solo-sized menu items like mini kkwabaerou and solo cream shrimp! Now you don't have to give up on kkwabaerou just because you're eating alone haha

How spicy is level 2, exactly?

The spice level was also divided into several stages! I had level 2, and it was about as spicy as Shin Ramyun. Next time I'll try level 3 haha

Variety of ingredients and picking your own fenzi noodles

What surprised me the most here was honestly just the sheer variety of ingredients.

Ingredient display with vegetables and mushrooms

I've been to several malatang places, but this was the first time I'd seen this much variety laid out all at once!

From vegetables and mushrooms to tofu, meat, and noodles, everything was there, and there were also quite a few of the trendy new fenzi (sweet potato starch noodle) varieties!

Panda- and watermelon-shaped fenzi noodles

There were even panda- and watermelon-shaped fenzi, so it was fun trying to decide what to pick haha

Meat and skewers are charged by weight too

And here's the biggest reason I found Rahongbang Suwon Cheoncheon to be great-value malatang in Suwon: meat and skewers are also charged by weight!

At other malatang places, even if I wanted quail eggs or fried tofu, picking up skewers one by one would quietly rack up the bill! But here, since it's charged by weight, I could load up my bowl way more comfortably than usual haha

There was also a separate sauce bar. I like peanut sauce with malatang, so I was happy that the sauces were well stocked too!

How was the malatang and mala xiang guo?

And here's something surprising — the malatang came out in about 5 minutes? (Gotta love the need-it-now spirit here.)

Finished bowl of malatang served at the table

Since I got a bit greedy loading up ingredients, the bowl came out pretty hefty 😋 We ordered everything from mala xiang guo to malatang.

I put in a good mix of my favorite vegetables, mushrooms, meat, and fenzi, and since the ingredients were so varied, the texture changed with every bite, which made it even more delicious!

The fenzi in particular had slightly different textures depending on the type, so it was fun hunting down each one while eating haha

How many pieces does the solo kkwabaerou come with?

And the thing that genuinely surprised me the most that day was the birthday-event solo kkwabaerou 🎂

Honestly, since it was called a solo portion, I expected maybe two pieces. But guess what... when I got it, it came with about 5 pieces!!

Solo kkwabaerou served with about 5 pieces

I thought a solo menu item would just be a taste-sized portion, so I was surprised by how much it actually was. Even compared to a regular kkwabaerou order at other malatang places, the amount didn't feel lacking at all, and the taste — as you can probably tell from the photo — was excellent :)

Crispy fried coating with a sweet and sour sauce — perfect after a bite of numbing malatang!

A piece of kkwabaerou enjoyed alongside the malatang

It wasn't just that the malatang itself tasted good — the wide range of ingredients, the fact that meat and skewers are charged by weight, and the solo-friendly setup all made this a great spot haha

Leftover mala xiang guo packed up to take home

They even neatly packed up the leftover mala xiang guo for me to take home! I think I'll keep coming back here whenever I want malatang. Being able to use Onnuri gift certificates was a nice bonus too!

To sum up

  • ✔️ Really wide variety of malatang ingredients
  • ✔️ Skewers and meat charged by weight
  • ✔️ Wide variety of trendy fenzi types
  • ✔️ Self-serve sauces like peanut sauce available
  • ✔️ Solo seats and phone stands, great for eating alone

If you've ever hesitated to load up your malatang with extras because paying per skewer felt like it adds up too fast, this is a place where you can pick and choose much more freely! I think I'm going to become a regular here 🌶️
