Paneer spinach and karahi chicken at Mandala, a Hapjeong Indian spot
In short
Mandala Indian Lounge is an Indian restaurant on the 3rd floor of an alley building in Seogyo-dong, between Hapjeong Station and Hongik University Station in Mapo, Seoul. The writer and a friend ordered karahi chicken curry, paneer spinach, plain naan and a bowl of rice, then added a second plain naan because the curry portions were so generous. With no heavy spice smell in the room and plenty of daylight, Mandala Indian Lounge is an easy first stop for anyone new to Indian food.

Today I'm sharing a review of a spot with a great atmosphere where my friend and I enjoyed clean, tidy curry together.

Let me tell you about my visit to 'Mandala Indian Lounge,' tucked away in the charming alleys of Seogyo-dong between Hapjeong Station and Hongik University Station!!

How to get to Mandala Indian Lounge from Hapjeong Station
Mandala Indian Lounge is located in a cozy alley shop in Seogyo-dong, about a 5–7 minute walk from Hapjeong Station. The alley itself has such a quiet, sentimental atmosphere that it was fun to stroll and find it slowly. Being so close to the subway station made it really accessible by public transit.
Even though it's inside an alley building, doesn't the exterior already look clean and neat? The restaurant is on the 3rd floor, but you can get up there quickly by stairs.

Inside Mandala: a dining room with no spice smell
The first thing I noticed the moment I stepped into Mandala Indian Lounge was that there was no strong spice smell. Usually at Indian restaurants, a strong spice aroma hits you right at the entrance, but here the air was pleasant and fresh. It's a great spot for beginners to Indian food or anyone sensitive to smells to visit without any worry.
The interior is done in a trendy, cozy white-and-wood tone, and the warm sunlight pouring in through the floor-to-ceiling windows gave the whole space a bright, comfortable feel.

Hangers, blankets and other conveniences at Mandala
There's a hanger set up so you can neatly hang up bulky coats or bags. And blankets were also neatly prepared in case the air conditioning feels too cold.

Posters and photos evoking India decorate the walls and pillars here and there, adding an exotic touch. Somehow... it has a hip vibe? The whole place felt trendy yet clean and pleasant.

And isn't this camel-shaped napkin holder really cute??

What is on the menu at Mandala Indian Lounge?
Mandala Indian Lounge offers a wide variety of traditional Indian curries, naan, rice, and side dishes. There are also various set menus, plus an affordable lunch menu.

And the unique thing about this place is that during the day it operates as a restaurant where you can enjoy delicious curry bathed in sunlight, and in the evening the mood completely changes as it transforms into a lounge bar for wine, cocktails, and beer.
They also have a good range of vegetable curry options for vegetarians, so it could be a great choice for anyone looking for vegetarian restaurants in the Hongdae area.

Our order: karahi chicken curry, paneer spinach, plain naan and rice
We ordered karahi chicken curry, paneer spinach, plain naan, and rice. (The curry portions were so generous that we later added one more plain naan and ate it all up nicely!)

Paneer spinach: the vegetarian curry at Mandala
Paneer spinach is a representative Indian vegetarian curry made with spinach and handmade cheese (paneer). The green-colored curry might seem unfamiliar, but it's actually my favorite. It had a subtle spinach aroma and was smooth and creamy, almost like fresh cream.

The big chunks of paneer cheese in the curry added a nutty flavor and nice chewy texture. Eating it over rice with the curry was so nutty and soft... really good!! I'd recommend this menu to anyone leaning vegetarian.

Karahi chicken curry, and why we ordered a second naan
With big, tender pieces of chicken and plenty of bell pepper and onion, the karahi chicken had a hearty, moderately spicy flavor. Even for someone like me who's weak with spice and only eats the mild version of tteokbokki, it wasn't overwhelming at all — just a pleasantly hearty kick.

It seems like a curry that suits Korean palates without any resistance. The chicken pieces are big, and the vegetables are big too, so it seems like it would be great to order when visiting with parents. It was delicious wrapped in torn naan with the chicken and curry, and just as good mixed into plain white rice — we cleaned our bowls in no time.
Verdict: a Hapjeong Indian restaurant for dates and group dinners
'Mandala Indian Lounge' was a Hapjeong restaurant where you can enjoy tidy Indian food without any spice worries, all in a clean, brightly lit atmosphere.
With hangers, blankets, and friendly service, the thoughtfulness toward guests was evident throughout the space, making the meal really comfortable. Also, the place is so clean and pleasant that even people worried about hygiene can enjoy Indian food without concern. It's a place with a distinct charm — a tidy dining spot by day, an atmospheric Hapjeong bar by night — so I highly recommend it for dates or gatherings!!

They're also running a Naver receipt review event that gives out free naan, so be sure to take part~~
