Dongdaegu Station meat restaurant beef stew nachos and wings: Modak
In short
Modak Texas Barbecue Dongdaegu Branch is a Texas barbecue restaurant with a western American feel, 371 meters from Exit 2 of Dongdaegu Station in Dong-gu, Daegu. Visiting as a couple on a weekend, the writer ordered the Memphis Platter Set for two (75,000 won) and the shrimp rosé ravioli pasta (16,000 won), which arrived with a tomato beef stew appetizer, freshly fried nachos and big wing pieces. Brisket, spare ribs and pulled pork all wrapped in tortillas made Modak Texas Barbecue a strong fit for a big-eating couple.

If you use the affiliated parking lot and spend over ₩50,000, you get a ₩4,000 discount!
They also have a Texas barbecue lunch special, apparently, and the per-person price is pretty reasonable too, so it seems perfect for lunch. Let's head inside.
Inside Modak Texas Barbecue: seating and space for groups
Modak Texas Barbecue Dongdaegu is all on one floor and it's pretty spacious, so it seems perfect for group meals, dates, or friend gatherings. There were actually groups dining there too!

The tables were nice and tall, which made it feel fairly private and clean — I liked that!
(My boyfriend went to LA earlier this year and said this place reminded him a lot of the American steakhouses he saw there haha)
We took a table further inside. There's a tableside ordering system, so checking the menu and ordering was super convenient.

Appetizers: tomato beef stew and freshly fried nachos
As an appetizer we got a tomato beef stew served with nachos, along with clean cutlery and nice bottled water.

You dip the nachos into the tomato beef stew like a curry dip, and it's genuinely so good!!
The nachos were freshly fried and delicious, and the stew was amazing too. I could have kept eating endlessly if I hadn't been saving room for the meal hahahaha. Let's take a proper look at the menu.

Modak Texas Barbecue menu and what the two of us ordered
The signature dish is the Texas barbecue! There are barbecue platter sets for 4, 3, and 2 people. Since there were just two of us, we debated between the two 2-person sets.

There were also various pasta options. We ordered the shrimp rosé ravioli pasta, since it was listed as a bestseller, and it turned out to be quite unusual haha.

There was a wide range of beer, wine, soju, and more — seemed like a great place for a drink too.
- 1. Memphis Platter Set for two (₩75,000) — we debated between this and the Texas Platter Set for two, but went with this one since it comes with extra spare ribs, so it's great for a big-eating couple!
- 2. Shrimp rosé ravioli pasta, ₩16,000
- 3. Zero-sugar cola, ₩3,000
What comes in the 75,000 won Memphis Platter Set for two
It finally arrived!! Ta-da

It was way more generous and plentiful than I expected. Visually, it just looked ridiculously delicious.

On the side came salad, tortillas, fries, dinner rolls for building mini burgers, wing pieces, coleslaw, and all sorts of sauces. It was so varied and generous that it caught me off guard. I was so curious how it would taste.

The meats, from top to bottom: brisket (150g), spare ribs (pork, 250g), pulled pork (130g). Very varied and very generous.
A staff member gave us a quick explanation of how to eat it and sliced the meat for us — super convenient.
How the Memphis Platter tasted

1. Brisket on the top tier (beef, 150g)

Brisket on top: the meat is sliced thin, and eaten plain at first it was incredibly tender and chewy. Dipped in barbecue sauce, it's amazing.
The tortillas were also really high quality — soft with just the right thickness — so wrapping up brisket, coleslaw, sauce, and salad together made for a heavenly combo.
There's no set rule, so just fill it up however you like — it's delicious either way!
2. Spare ribs in the middle (pork, 250g)

Spare ribs: everything was delicious, but personally these were my favorite. Truly tender ribs through and through. They're already lightly seasoned on the outside, so you don't even need to dip them in sauce — amazing on their own. There's bone inside, so you need to pick around it carefully!

The spare ribs wrapped in a tortilla were an insanely good combo too. Spare ribs + sauce + salad + tomato salsa was next level!!
3. Pulled pork on the bottom tier (130g)

Pulled pork at the bottom: incredibly moist and tender even eaten plain. The meat fibers were shredded so finely it almost didn't feel like pork — pure moist, tender meat. I stuffed a dinner roll with pulled pork, coleslaw, salad, and sauce, and it easily beat most hamburgers.
Shrimp rosé ravioli pasta (16,000 won)

Since this was listed as a bestseller, I accidentally ordered it thinking it was a regular shrimp rosé pasta — but it turned out surprisingly delicious hahahaha.
Unlike regular pasta noodles, this one had square-shaped pasta with cheese sealed inside! I'd never had anything like it before, and it was way better than I expected.
It was packed with cheese and plump shrimp — so good. The portion wasn't too much either, which was perfect since the barbecue was already filling me up — a great side dish!
The three big wing pieces
Even the wings were huge and incredibly tasty. Best wings I've had so far. The size was big, which made them even more satisfying to eat!

Which Modak Texas Barbecue platter set should you order?
- 1. If you're looking for a good restaurant near Dongdaegu Station, a steakhouse near Dongdaegu Station, a spot for a work dinner, a pasta place, a lunch spot, or a great steak restaurant in Daegu — highly recommend this place!!
- 2. It felt like being on a trip to the US, with lots of actual foreign visitors, and the restaurant is big and clean, so it seems great for couple dates, friend gatherings, work dinners, or family meals!
- 3. The signature barbecue comes in sets ranging from 2 to 4 people, so you can pick based on your group size and taste. We had the Memphis Platter Set for two and loved being able to try three kinds of barbecue! For two big eaters or three women, I'd recommend the Memphis Platter Set for two; for average or light eaters, go with the Texas Platter Set.
- 4. The barbecue set had a great variety with brisket, pulled pork, and spare ribs, and the meat quality was tender and moist — so delicious. The sides — tortillas, coleslaw, fries, salad, wings, sauces — were varied enough to suit anyone's taste, and were great eaten plain or wrapped in tortillas.
(According to my boyfriend, the price here was much more reasonable than the barbecue he had on his LA trip recently, and the taste was even better!)
