Hapjeong Korean BBQ Saturday night wait: yangnyeom galbi, Jeongyukdo
In short
Jeongyukdo is a Korean BBQ restaurant near exit 5 of Hapjeong Station in Mapo, Seoul, serving 1++ hanwoo beef and 1st-grade handon pork. On a Saturday evening visit, Jeongyukdo's handon set of ribs, pork belly and pork neck came with doenjang stew, followed by add-on orders of yangnyeom galbi (marinated grilled ribs) and bibim naengmyeon (spicy cold buckwheat noodles). With an outdoor patio, sectioned indoor seating and 3,200 won draft beer, Jeongyukdo suits both a date and a group dinner.

Recommending a great meat spot in Hapjeong today! It's called Jeongyukdo, and they sell everything from beef to pork, and it's basically right outside exit 5 of Hapjeong Station — like, trip-and-fall-and-you're-there close. Open 11:30 AM to 11 PM (10 PM on Sundays), so lunch is totally doable too.

What is the patio at Jeongyukdo like?
Jeongyukdo is a Hapjeong BBQ spot with an outdoor patio (yajang). And if you're out here looking for a patio grill spot in weather like this? Gather everyone here right now — the drinks just flow. A patio date here would be so romantic. But it's not full-on old-school dive vibes either, so it never feels chaotic.

Saturday evening wait time and reservations at Jeongyukdo
I went on a Saturday evening and there was only a tiny bit of a wait. You can book through Naver Reservation, so if you're more of a planner than a spontaneous type like me, reserving ahead means skipping the wait entirely. Seems like a lot of groups come here too.
Solid proof it's a good spot: tons of celebrity signatures on the wall. I spotted Hong Seok-cheon's autograph among them — that basically guarantees it's legit, right?
Meat grades, menu and drink prices at Jeongyukdo
Jeongyukdo has everything from beef to pork, and the beef is 1++ hanwoo (Korean beef). The pork is 1st grade too — basically the honor students of meat. You know not many places sell specialty cuts these days? Their specialty set includes hangjeongsal (pork jowl), gabrisal (pork skirt), galmaegisal (pork skirt meat) and more — a total drinking-snack lineup.

And draft beer is ₩3,200? That's basically free. There's even a Hwayo-with-lemon combo for 3.5, which is a total bargain.

How do you know a place is legit? They sell meal kits — that's the real proof. There's also a lunch menu with rice soup, braised short ribs, and a lunch hanwoo set, so it could work for a work dinner too.

Is Jeongyukdo good for group dinners? Indoor seats and coat hooks
They told me groups from 6 up to 20 people are possible — great for company dinners or group get-togethers. Inside isn't one big open space; it's divided into sections, but it doesn't feel cramped, just a bit separated so you can eat without much noise.

The thing that always bugs me at BBQ places is the smell clinging to your clothes, but here there are spots to hang your coat separately, so I worried less about that.

What side dishes come with the meal?
The basic side dishes at Jeongyukdo seemed to be pink salt, wasabi, wholegrain mustard, pickled onion, scallion salad, plus a tray with pickled chili, spicy radish salad, and salted seafood. Nothing over the top, just clean and simple basics — nothing felt lacking, and I really liked that.

Charcoal grilling at the table
The most important thing about meat is the charcoal, right? That's what gives it the smoky flavor, and Jeongyukdo's charcoal was genuinely great — never weak, so grilling was smooth sailing. They also kindly explain how to grill, so even someone who can't grill can just wing it and still end up with something delicious.

The handon pork set and doenjang stew
We ordered the Jeongyukdo pork set, which came with ribs, belly, and neck — a classic combo, right? True to the name (which basically means 'butcher shop'), it's plated in a way that feels like a real meat market. You could tell just by looking how fresh it was.

The set comes with doenjang jjigae (fermented soybean paste stew) too. It leaned a bit toward cheonggukjang (stronger fermented soybean stew) territory, but not heavy at all.

Genuinely clean and delicious.

Add-on yangnyeom galbi and bibim naengmyeon
We also added Jeongyukdo's yangnyeom galbi (seasoned grilled ribs) — genuinely amazing, like a perfect finish to the meal. There's a reason they sell it as a meal kit.

And what goes with ribs? Bibim naengmyeon, obviously. The friend I went with said the bibim naengmyeon was actually their favorite thing we ate.
You've gotta grill ribs with both hands going, mantis-style, you know? Personally, ribs were my favorite of everything we ate. After eating, we walked all the way to Mangwon Hangang Park — total romantic finish to the night. That's it for this Hapjeong/Hongdae meat spot, Jeongyukdo.
