Paju café that writes your name on the einspänner: On the Rail

With the weather cooling down lately, I've been craving café road trips. So when I heard there was a café by the train tracks out in Paju, I had to check it out — On the Rail, a late-night café in Paju 🚂

I was curious because they said actual trains pass right by this café, so I went to see for myself.

On the Rail in Munsan, Paju: location, hours and parking

On the Rail is at 25 Imjingang-ro, Munsan-eup, Paju-si, Gyeonggi-do. It's open Monday to Saturday from 11:00 to 2:00 the next morning, and Sundays from 11:00 to midnight — great for a late-night café run.

What does the inside of this large Paju café look like?

The moment I arrived, I was surprised by how big the building was. Inside, it's spacious with high ceilings, giving it a really open feel. Green plants placed around the space made it feel comfortable too.

The bakery counter had a surprisingly solid lineup of desserts. The train-shaped cookie is this café's own signature touch.

Overall it was neat and well kept, and you can even enjoy a campfire outdoors from 8pm to 2am. With the nice weather lately, it'd be fun to get a bit of a camping feel while doing that.

How the einspänner, train cookie and Anpanman cookie taste

What I ordered today at On the Rail was the signature einspänner, plus the train cookie and the cute Anpanman cookie! I'd been craving cookies for a while, and the prices were reasonable, so I picked them without a second thought.

They even wrote 'On the Rail' on it and it looked so pretty that just drinking it put me in a good mood.

Starting with the einspänner, the cream on top was really soft and rich. The espresso shot had no sourness and a nice nutty flavor, so it balanced perfectly with the cream. I tried the cream first, then mixed it with the coffee — even better that way.

The Anpanman cookie was so cute I couldn't resist buying it haha. One bite and it's crispy with a strong butter aroma. The train cookie is adorable just from its shape, and with chocolate tucked inside, I kept reaching for more without getting tired of it.

Eating them with the einspänner gave a great sweet-and-salty balance — the pairing was really good. Both portions were just the right size, so it wasn't too much at all.

Watching trains pass: the railway photo zone at On the Rail

There's an actual train track right next to On the Rail, so if your timing is lucky, you can watch a train go by in person. It's pretty during the day, but the mood is totally different around sunset.

There's a dedicated railway photo zone, which was great for taking pictures. If you sit by the window, you get the open view along with it.

There's a train schedule posted too, so check it and catch a train passing while you're there !-! It's not your typical café view, so it'll stick in your memory even more. Weekends tend to get crowded, so I'd recommend going with a relaxed schedule. Since it stays open late, try visiting at night.

Outdoor seats, campfire hours and dogs at On the Rail

There's plenty of outdoor seating too! Dogs are welcome here as well. Once night falls, the lights come on and the space turns even prettier.

Keep walking and you'll come across the campfire spot.

Inside the café, they have the basics ready to go — microwave, baby chair, napkins — so make use of them! The restroom is indoors, and it was clean with no odor.

There's also outdoor seating with a direct view of the train! Understandably, the outdoor seats are the most popular. The second floor can be risky for kids to go up alone, so please stay with them.

Making it a drive: On the Rail with Imjingak

Imjingak is near On the Rail, so it makes a good combo for a drive — check out the café, then walk around nearby. After a meal or coffee, taking a stroll seems like a nice option too.

With the weather so nice, I walked along the back path too and just relaxed sitting there for a while. Next time I'll try other menu items. On the Rail, the railway café in Paju — even though it's out on the edge of town, I'd definitely recommend making the trip 🌟
