Inside Sonsi Sushi

You order comfortably at the table, so I could take my time looking over the menu and picking what I wanted — and overall the place felt clean and well kept.

Sonsi Sushi set menu prices, from 24,900 to 30,500 won
Sonsi Sushi's set menus break down into the Gasimbi Set (26,500 won), the Gaseongbi Set (30,500 won), and the Gatseongbi Set (24,900 won). There are separate lunch specials, including the Gatseongbi Set, so keep that in mind.
- Gasimbi Set ₩26,500: Aged nigiri (large) 10P, Katsuo udon (large), Aged soy sauce chicken don, drink
- Gaseongbi Set ₩30,500: Aged nigiri (large) 10P, Katsuo udon (large), Aged vinegar-sauce sashimi rice bowl, house-sauce shrimp tempura 4P
- Gatseongbi Set ₩24,900: Aged nigiri (small) 8P, Katsuo udon (large), Aged vinegar-sauce sashimi rice bowl, house-sauce shrimp tempura 4P
You can swap the udon in any set for cold Namhae anchovy soba for an extra charge, and the nigiri can also be upgraded to the Premium Aged Nigiri 12P! Personally, if you want to try a bit of everything at once, I'd recommend the Gaseongbi Set — it comes with nigiri, sashimi rice bowl, shrimp tempura and udon all together, so you get to sample a wide range of dishes.

What comes on the 18,500 won Premium Sushi Platter?
Instead of a set, we went with the sushi platter menu. 🍣 The Premium Sushi Platter is 18,500 won.

The Premium Sushi Platter came out as one plate loaded with many kinds of nigiri — salmon, tuna, shrimp, flounder, ankimo (monkfish liver) and more, so it was a great way to taste a wide variety of sushi in one sitting haha.

And they also have a separate kids' set ready for anyone visiting with children!

Udon and salad come included in the set too, haha.

Tuna nigiri and egg nigiri at Sonsi Sushi
The tuna nigiri was clean and light — honestly moving. The flesh had a soft bite and went really well with the rice. It also seems like each type of sushi is aged with a different method and timing, which feels like a real strength unique to Sonsi Sushi, a top sushi spot near Yeungnam University.

The egg nigiri in the middle had a fluffy, soft texture with a subtle sweetness, haha. It had that clean, savory egg flavor that went well tucked between the fish nigiri, resetting your palate in a gentle way. They grill the egg themselves, and it was fluffy and delicious.

Eel nigiri and octopus gunkan
The eel nigiri was brushed with a sweet eel sauce, so the umami hit from the first bite, haha. The eel flesh was soft and moist, never chewy, with a subtle smoky note layered in for a rich flavor overall... I could've eaten a hundred of these, haha.

The octopus gunkan was also nice and spicy-tangy.

Low-sodium aged soy sauce made with Gyeongsan jujubes
Apparently this is Korea's first sushi soy sauce made with Gyeongsan's local specialty, jujubes. Because it's a low-sodium aged sauce, the subtle jujube aroma and deep umami add extra flavor to the sushi!!!!

Thick Kobujime Salmon Nigiri 8P, 15,000 won
The Thick Kobujime Salmon Nigiri 8P is 15,000 won. We ordered two of the torched ones.

Because it's aged kobujime-style, the umami came through noticeably stronger than plain raw salmon, and the salmon flavor itself felt richer too?! As someone who loves salmon, I personally enjoyed this... a lot.

Soft but never mushy, with a slightly chewy bite — the more you chew, the more the salmon's savory umami explodes. I want to eat it again already, haha.

Self-serve items by the register, and is Sonsi Sushi worth it?
After paying, I noticed wet wipes, hand cream, floss, hair ties, and a portable charger sitting by the register. Total respect for the owner's thoughtfulness 👍🏻 Overall, with so many types of sushi and multiple menu configurations, Sonsi Sushi Yeungnam University Main Branch made it easy to order exactly what suited my taste, haha. Both the Premium Sushi Platter and the Thick Kobujime Salmon Nigiri I tried came topped with generously thick fish, and paired with udon, it made for a satisfying, hearty meal.
