Gyukatsu restaurant in Sinnonhyeon with 200ml Kirin beer: Ichigyu

In short

Ichigyu Gangnam Sinnonhyeon Branch is a gyukatsu (Japanese-style beef cutlet) restaurant on the second floor of a building on Bongeunsa-ro 4-gil, by Sinnonhyeon Station in Gangnam, Seoul. The order here was a single gyukatsu with a 200ml Kirin one-bite draft beer, grilled piece by piece on the tabletop brazier to taste and topped with wasabi, which kept every bite from feeling heavy. For gyukatsu with one light draft beer on the side, Ichigyu Gangnam Sinnonhyeon Branch is a good match.

How to reach Ichigyu Gangnam Sinnonhyeon Branch from Sinnonhyeon Station

I wanted something delicious in Sinnonhyeon, so I headed to Ichigyu Gangnam Sinnonhyeon Branch!!! I love gyukatsu (Japanese-style breaded beef cutlet) so I looked around and ended up here — it has a real Japanese feel and a nice vibe, so let me introduce it~!

What was ordered: gyukatsu and a 200ml Kirin one-bite draft beer

Ichigyu has a lot more than just gyukatsu — steki-don, steki set meals, hamburg omurice, hot-plate chapsteak, yakisoba Napolitan, and more. After some thought, we decided to focus purely on gyukatsu that day haha. And of course, beer is a must when eating gyukatsu, so we ordered that too🍺

  • Gyukatsu
  • Kirin draft beer 200ml

The Kirin draft beer came in a 200ml size, so it was nice to pair lightly with the gyukatsu.

Grilling Ichigyu's gyukatsu yourself on the tabletop brazier

Finally, the gyukatsu I'd been waiting for arrived~! It comes pre-sliced into easy-to-eat pieces, all set up so you can grill it right in front of you to your liking. The moment the small brazier lit up right after the gyukatsu arrived, I got weirdly excited lol.

The outside is fried crisp while the meat inside stays juicy, so you can grill each piece a little at a time to your taste. Personally I found it tastier lightly grilled rather than fully cooked through. The meat itself was tender, and the more I chewed, the more savory it got. The breading wasn't too thick either, which let the meat's flavor come through :)

Wasabi over sauce: how to cut the richness of gyukatsu

It was tasty dipped in sauce, and also went well with a little wasabi on top. Personally, gyukatsu can get a bit heavy the more you eat, but topping it with wasabi kept it clean and I just kept eating haha.

Kirin draft beer 200ml ordered alongside the gyukatsu

Does a 200ml Kirin draft beer go with gyukatsu?

And then there was the Kirin draft beer🍺 we ordered alongside the gyukatsu. At 200ml, the amount wasn't overwhelming — just right for a light single glass. Taking a bite of gyukatsu and a sip of beer made for a pretty great combo. Especially with the gyukatsu grilled warm and the beer served cold, it somehow tasted even better.

Ichigyu Gangnam Sinnonhyeon Branch: final verdict

Ichigyu Gangnam Sinnonhyeon Branch was a solid choice when craving gyukatsu near Sinnonhyeon. There's fun in grilling it yourself, and the meat is tender, so anyone who loves gyukatsu should enjoy it here. That day we paired gyukatsu with Kirin draft beer and it was just the right match🍺 If you're in Sinnonhyeon looking for something with a Japanese feel, or just craving gyukatsu, this place is worth a visit~! Grilling the gyukatsu bit by bit right in front of you is oddly fun, so it could make for a good date spot too haha.
