Nonhyeon Station BBQ restaurant with a two-person room: Deo Bareun

In short

Deo Bareun Butcher Restaurant Nonhyeon Station Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant in Gangnam, Seoul, with private rooms for parties of 2 up to 12. A two-person room booking here brought the Jeju black pork platter (pork belly, neck meat and gabrisal) plus bibim naengmyeon, and grilling inside the room stayed light on smoke, so clothes barely smelled afterwards. Deo Bareun suits both a quiet dinner for two and a group get-together.

A friend who promised to treat me to Jeju black pork never came through (no hard feelings haha), so I ended up hunting down a good Gangnam BBQ spot myself and landed on Deo Bareun Butcher Restaurant, a Korean BBQ place near Nonhyeon Station.

Meat is always right.

I love meat, so when I found this butcher restaurant among the Nonhyeon Station BBQ spots known for having private rooms, I booked ahead and went to check it out. What stood out most was that the smell you usually pick up on your clothes at a BBQ place wasn't strong here.

Since we booked a 2-person room, we got to enjoy a private, quiet meal.

Table inside the 2-person room

The clean private room came with the platter neatly set, and the soundproofing was good enough for a quiet meal.

Does grilling in the room leave smoke and smell on your clothes?

What impressed me most that day was that the tableware was sterilized in hot water, and even though we grilled the meat ourselves right in the room, the smoke never got thick.

Usually after eating at a BBQ place, a strong smell clings to your clothes on the way out, but here there wasn't much smoke during the meal, and no strong smell lingered afterward either. Being able to eat comfortably in a private room without worrying about the smoke and smell typical of BBQ places was something that really stuck with me. Smell is usually the hard part to avoid at a BBQ restaurant, but as a Nonhyeon Station BBQ spot, Deo Bareun felt special in this regard.

Deo Bareun's slogan and Hanwoo information sign

Deo Bareun Butcher Restaurant, a Gangnam BBQ spot with the slogan 'better service, better price, better taste,' states that it selects top-grade Hanwoo (Korean beef) to serve.

Beyond beef, they also serve Jeju black pork, with the fun of trying different cuts. There was a tank of live lobster out front, and sure enough, live lobster butter-grilled was on the menu too, so you could enjoy both meat and lobster.

Since the area near Nonhyeon Station has a lot of offices, there was also a lunch menu aimed at office workers. The lunch menu featured dishes made with Hanwoo and Jeju black pork too, so it seemed like a popular spot for a hearty weekday lunch among people who work nearby.

On weekdays (Mon–Fri), ordering a beef set gets you one bottle of wine per table. On weekends (Sat–Sun) and holidays, ordering Hanwoo or black pork gets you corkage-free service. They also had various wine, whiskey, and gaoliang glasses ready, so you can pair drinks with the meat.

With private rooms and corkage-free service on offer, this felt like a great spot for family gatherings, group meetups, work dinners, or dates.

What we ordered: Jeju black pork geun-gogi and bibim naengmyeon

The table setting was very clean and neat. The three sauces — wasabi, salt, and ssamjang — came in tidy little jars, along with white kimchi, pickled radish, vegetables, and mountain leek (myeongi) namul, plus a neat lettuce and red chard salad.

The portions were generous, plenty to go with the meat.

The individual plate was a big round one, clean and large enough to arrange vegetables, sauce, and meat neatly.

Jeju black pork platter: ogyeopsal, neck meat and gabrisal

This BBQ spot in Nonhyeon-dong serves its black pork platter with Jeju black pork pork belly, neck meat, and either hangjeongsal (pork jowl) or gabrisal (skirt meat).

I personally love the chewy texture of gabrisal, and it happened to be the cut served the day we visited.

The generous Jeju black pork platter looked delicious even before grilling, with the tender-looking meat scored with knife cuts.

Clean charcoal came out first, and staff handled the grilling service, which made eating the meat easy and worry-free.

Watching the black pork sizzle away only made me hungrier.

The Jeju black pork pork belly was tender with a chewy skin that stood out to me, and the neck meat wasn't too dry, so kids would probably enjoy it too.

The gabrisal had that distinctive chewy texture, and overall each cut's character and flavor came through clearly.

Bibim naengmyeon and the dessert menu at Deo Bareun

The bibim naengmyeon (spicy cold noodles) we ordered to go with the meat at Deo Bareun Butcher Restaurant near Nonhyeon Station had a natural, not-too-artificial flavor that was easy to enjoy.

There was also a dessert menu, sized just right whether you eat it alongside the meat or want a light finish, making it a good option for the meal.

Meal menu including nurungji and doenjang jjigae

The nurungji (scorched rice) and doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) menu also seemed like it'd be a good choice for a meal with kids or older family members.

Verdict: Deo Bareun as a private-room BBQ spot near Nonhyeon Station

Meat is delicious whether you eat it plain, wrapped in lettuce, with rice, or with noodles.
