Why Coffee Dripper for a Gangneung café day

Today I want to recommend a café I visited in my hometown—Gangneung! People visiting Gangneung always ask me for things to do there, café recommendations, so much ㅠㅠㅠ But honestly... personally, Gangneung has soooo many places to eat, but not many places to play.

One night, two days is plenty of time there, but it might not be enough for eating and playing both haha. If only I could prep my stomach in advance...!!!

Since it's my hometown, I mostly eat home-cooked meals when I'm there. Home food is what I miss most~! Then eventually I wander over to a café! There can't possibly be this many, but every time I think about which one to go to, what mood I want, what drink to order~~

So today I'll recommend a place great for lattes. As I've reviewed a few cafés, I've noticed a lot of places have signature drinks that taste bad and are just cream piled on top. Ugh... I feel like I keep getting played by signature menus... And then I found this place. Coffee Dripper.

Before heading over, I read the menu board closely. Oh ho... the Dripper latte... so that's the signature. But a cone choco latte??? I thought, that's insane! A look that wins purely on taste—I figured I'd just have to go and decide!!

Coffee Dripper's exterior is really impressive! It had a clean, spacious feel.

There are several outdoor tables that are great for nice weather, and a spacious parking lot to the left. The entrance path was easy, so it put me in a good mood haha.

It felt like the indoor and outdoor spaces blended together, with seats that had a terrace feel. It felt a bit more comfortable. We went a little after lunchtime and there were more people than I expected, including quite a few who came alone, which surprised me. I wonder if word had gotten around haha.

Coffee Dripper's menu: house blend or the master's recommended bean?

Coffee Dripper has 5 signature drinks total, and I was surprised 3 of them were pudding or ice cream based. Aside from the cream latte, they were basically all ice-cream-related! I only realized while writing this that I should have tried one haha.

My mom likes putting syrup in her americano, and since there were two types of americano, she was deciding between them. The staff explained that the house blend has no acidity, while the master's recommended bean has a sweetness of grape, orange, and roasted sweet potato with mild acidity!

Just from the description, I wanted to try the recommended bean. Coffee with grape... orange...? roasted sweet potato?? What combination is this?? But my mind was already made up haha. Mom doesn't like acidity so she went with the house blend!

For dessert they only sold croffin and financier. It was my first time at a place mainly serving croffin, so it felt unfamiliar—I decided to go with the vanilla croffin this time.

They also gave my mom's must-have, sugar, along with the drinks haha. And they gave us something like a 'lingering note'?—to eat after finishing the americano, to cleanse the palate haha. When I tried it later it seemed to have a pine needle scent, though I'm not totally sure. It had a fresh, refreshing kind of aroma.

I gave the signature drink another shot, and drumroll.

This place is legit. This signature drink earns my respect.

Usually when there's a cream layer piled on top like this, they often don't even give you a straw, but here they handed one over without being asked. So I tried it both plain and mixed, and it stayed clean-tasting without losing its flavor.

Lattes like this can sometimes be too sweet or have no distinct flavor, but here the sweetness came through cleanly and subtly, and the portion wasn't so small that it felt lacking—it clearly felt like the latte was the star, not just a cream-flavored drink. Every single sip was so precious..ㅠㅠㅠ

The house blend americano tastes best with sugar

Oh, and the house blend my mom drank was a bit lacking on its own, but she said once she added sugar it was definitely delicious. That's only possible because the coffee itself is good!

I didn't try it before the sugar, but after adding it the flavor came up clean, similar to the latte. If you're planning to try it, I'd recommend tasting it as-is first, then adding sugar to compare.

Vanilla bean croffin: two is enough for three people

Breads with this kind of layered texture never tear neatly (obviously, obviously). Still, since it's a vanilla bean croffin, there were vanilla bean specks studded throughout with a subtle fragrance, which I liked haha. For three people the amount felt a bit lacking, so I think buying two would be just right haha (yes, we ate this right after a full meal).

It had been a while since I'd had a café date with my mom in Gangneung, and it was really satisfying—I hope I remember the name and that they stick around a long time haha. Bookmarking this as a place I want to come back to~!
