Dongnae hair salon: protein-care jelly perm on damaged hair, Chamer

Chamer is a hair salon on the 2nd floor of a commercial building near Lucky Apartment in Oncheon-dong (온천동), Dongnae, Busan. The writer arrived with badly damaged hair and a leftover hippie perm from 1.5 years earlier; team leader Ain combed out the tangles for nearly 10 minutes, cut in layers, then added protein care, a clinic treatment and aromatherapy before the jelly perm. Despite the damage, Chamer's jelly perm came out with natural, bouncy curls, and the writer plans to go back.

Seomyeon Station Chinese spot, shrimp ganjjajang set upgrade: Suraban

Suraban Seomyeon (수라반점 서면점) is a Chinese restaurant on Seomyeonmunhwa-ro in Busanjin, Busan, a go-to near Seomyeon Station, Jeonpo and Bujeon Station when a Chinese craving hits. Two diners ordered the jjajang + fried rice + mini tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) set, paid 3,000 won extra to swap the jjajang for shrimp ganjjajang (dry-fried black bean noodles), and got 6 fried dumplings for writing a Naver receipt review. With big shrimp in the fried rice and sweet old-school tangsuyuk, Suraban Seomyeon is a dependable Chinese restaurant by Seomyeon Station.

Sushi restaurant in Dongnae, Busan: better-fish Set 4 at Moshi Moshi

Moshi Moshi Sushi, Lotte Department Store Dongnae Branch, is a sushi restaurant in the 8th-floor dining area of Lotte Department Store Dongnae in Dongnae, Busan, near Myeongnyun Station. The writer, who first became a fan of the Pusan National University branch, upgraded Set 4 (for 2–3 people) to the 'better' fish for 69,900 won and got 18 pieces of sushi, fried shrimp and udon. With fresh fish and a generous set, Moshi Moshi Sushi Dongnae is a good choice for a Myeongnyun Station lunch with family or someone special.

Nampo, Busan sashimi course as first guests at 5 PM: Ppong Sashimi

Ppong Sashimi is a Japanese restaurant serving live sashimi and seasonal seafood courses in Jungangdong, Jung-gu, Busan, between Busan Station and Jungang Station. The writer booked the 5 PM slot right after the break time, walked in as the first guests and shared the assorted sashimi course (₩60,000 per person) for two with a friend: seafood sides, grilled sea bream head, hot pot, clear fish soup and roe rice. The portions were so generous that even the writer's big-eating friend couldn't finish, and after many repeat visits without a miss, the writer strongly recommends Ppong Sashimi.

Thin pork belly BBQ by Kyungsung Univ., grilled kimchi: Daepae Maket

Daepae Maket Busan Daeyeon Branch (대패마켙 부산대연점) is a daepae samgyeopsal (thin-sliced pork belly) BBQ restaurant on Suyeong-ro in Daeyeon-dong, Nam-gu, Busan, near Kyungsung and Pukyong universities. The blogger ordered 5 servings of thin-sliced pork belly, grilled them with kimchi, bean sprouts and side dishes from the self-serve bar, and received free fish cake, iced yellow peach and dessert ice cream. Daepae Maket Busan Daeyeon Branch is new, clean and spacious with friendly service, and the blogger would happily go back.

Busan shabu kalguksu, ₩11,000 full set with extra meat: Yunujae

Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu (윤우재 문현샤브 칼국수) is a shabu-shabu and kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) restaurant in Daerim Munhyeon City Plaza, Munhyeon-dong, Nam-gu, Busan. The writer ordered the 11,000-won-per-person full set with spicy broth and ate it with kimchi and radish kimchi from the self-serve bar. The writer also added extra vegetables and meat, then finished with kalguksu and fried rice. Verdict: the writer leaves Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu happy every time, thanks to its value and its kimchi.

Yeonsan, Busan izakaya for friends' 1st round: 4-skewer set, Samajama

Samajama Yeonsan Direct Branch is a Japanese-style izakaya near Yeonsan Station in Yeonje, Busan, built around handmade skewers. On a first round of the night with friends, the writer ordered a set of 4 skewers with dumplings and potatoes, draft beer and a pork belly bean sprout rice bowl. Samajama's skewers came straight off the grill and still hot, and the generously filled pork belly bean sprout rice bowl easily doubled as dinner.

Guseo-dong, Busan makchang spot with a free-refill self-bar: Jeongwon

Jeongwon Makchang Busan Main Branch is a makchang (grilled beef intestine) and pork belly restaurant on Geumgang-ro in Guseo-dong, Geumjeong, Busan. On a weekend-evening revisit with friends, the writer ordered the small Jeongwon Set of makchang and pork belly. The meal included free refills of tteokbokki, mussel soup and vegetables from the self-bar, doenjang stew, and complimentary jjondeugi and Chupa Chups lollipops for dessert. With makchang that is crispy outside and chewy inside and thick-cut pork belly, Jeongwon Makchang is a Guseo-dong BBQ spot worth returning to.

Yukgaejang-style spicy galbitang with soju in Seomyeon: Gang Galbitang

Gang Galbitang Seomyeon is a galbitang (beef short rib soup) restaurant on Saessak-ro, near Exit 11 of Seomyeon Station in Busan. A regular who comes whenever they feel run down ordered the usual Gang Galbitang, tried the spicy Gang Galbitang for the first time, and paired both with soju. The boiling stoneware bowls, big chunks of meat and the yukgaejang-like kick all impressed. Gang Galbitang Seomyeon is a reliable pick for galbitang in Seomyeon, even for a solo meal or a solo drink.

Motgol Station BBQ, Busan: half-and-half galbi, muksabal, Gim Geumja

Gim Geumja Sutbul Galbi is a Daeyeon-dong BBQ spot where both the not-too-sweet, savory marinated galbi and the addictive spicy galbi are worth eating.

Charcoal pork BBQ in Gwangalli, Busan: stone-plate Handon set, Jukrim

Jukrim Sutbul Dwaeji Gui (죽림숯불돼지구이) is a charcoal pork BBQ restaurant on Gwangnam-ro in Suyeong, Busan, near Gwangalli Beach and Geumnyeonsan Station, where staff grill the meat for you. The writer ordered the Jukrim Handon set (255g pork belly and 200g pork neck), which staff grilled and set on a large stone plate so the thick cuts stayed warm without burning, and the doenjang stew (soybean paste stew) in the set was rich and savory. With its clean dining room and friendly service, Jukrim Sutbul Dwaeji Gui is a Gwangalli pork BBQ the writer keeps returning to.

Seomyeon chicken pub, grapefruit highball and sweet half melon: Yetnal

Yetnal Tongdak & Tang Seomyeon Branch (옛날통닭앤탕 서면점) is a retro fried chicken and stew pub on Jungang-daero 680 Beonga-gil in Seomyeon, Busan, and the writer, who remembered the taste of the Yeonsan main branch, visited the newly opened Seomyeon branch. The writer ordered the half retro chicken and half melon set with a grapefruit highball and draft beer, and the crispy chicken paired surprisingly well with a melon that was sweeter than expected. For a casual drink with old-school market-style fried chicken in Seomyeon, Yetnal Tongdak & Tang Seomyeon Branch is a good fit.
