Hanok-style Korean restaurant with rooms for meetings: Sutgarak
In short
Sutgarak Bansang Masil is an upscale Korean restaurant in Nowon, Seoul, set in a hanok-style building with private rooms and a small garden. The 27,000-won Masil course brought a Yulmu barley and cherry blossom porridge, conch salad, medicinal bossam, Masil tteokgalbi, and mushroom braised ribs, all mild in seasoning. It's a solid pick for family gatherings or parents' first meetings (sangyeonrye) with older relatives.

Today I'm sharing my visit to Sutgarak Bansang Masil, a Nowon Station favorite for upscale Korean course meals — great for family gatherings or important occasions.
Location and parking near Nowon Station
Sutgarak Bansang Masil is located at 412 Nowon-ro, Nowon-gu, Seoul, South Korea, near Nowon Station and across from the Sanggye Jugong Complex 6 apartments. Free parking is available too, so it's convenient if you're driving!

With Korean course restaurants, the taste matters, but honestly the building and overall atmosphere matter too, don't they?! This place has a hanok (traditional Korean house) feel right from the entrance, clean and upscale — it seemed like a great spot for family gatherings or a sangyeonrye (formal meeting between families before marriage) in Nowon :)

The lunch menu starts at 16,900 won, which felt more reasonable than I expected.

Rooms and garden inside the restaurant
Let's step inside! There were plenty of tables and separate private rooms too. There were more rooms than I expected, which made me realize this is a place people often choose for sangyeonrye or family gatherings on important days. There's also a separate waiting area, and a small garden set up in the center — with green grass, various potted plants, a wooden bench, and even a cherry blossom tree, giving the whole place a surprisingly relaxed feel~!
Apparently a lot of celebrities have visited here too, so it was fun looking around the place haha. I even spotted director Park Chan-wook's signature~~!!

Ordering the 27,000-won Masil course
Here's the menu! There were so many different Korean course options~~! After some thought, we went with the Masil course from the menu. It's not easy to cook a lot of Korean dishes from scratch at home normally, so being able to try many different Korean dishes at once, plus some upscale items, had me excited haha.

Yulmu barley and cherry blossom porridge, and orange butterfly salad
The dishes started coming out~~! Even the name of the first dish, Yulmu barley and cherry blossom porridge, was so pretty. It was a gentle way to start, and next came the orange butterfly salad — fresh vegetables with a refreshing orange sauce.

Conch salad (sora chohoe naengchae)
Isn't the conch salad so pretty~?! It's savory, clean-tasting conch served with konjac jelly and lotus root, tossed with a sauce — tangy yet refreshing!

Medicinal bossam, Masil tteokgalbi, and mushroom braised ribs
On top of that, there was japchae (stir-fried glass noodles) loaded with meat, shrimp fritters, and vegetable fritters, plus the Masil course's signature dishes — medicinal bossam (herb-boiled pork wraps), Masil tteokgalbi (short rib patties), and nutritious mushroom braised ribs — so much came out that it really felt like the table was overflowing.

Best of all, the side dishes overall were clean and not too strongly seasoned. There wasn't much heavily salted or spicy food, so I think older family members could eat comfortably too! The bossam was soft rather than tough, and I was especially surprised the braised ribs were tender enough to shred along the grain when I expected them to be a bit chewy! The tteokgalbi also tasted like it had plenty of meat in it.

Finishing with red yeast rice and doenjang stew
Finally, rice made with red yeast rice, doenjang stew (soybean paste stew), and side dishes to go with the rice~~!! All this comes for 27,000 won!
The biggest strength of Sutgarak Bansang Masil, in my opinion, is that even as an upscale Korean course restaurant, the price isn't too heavy~~! :) Once I actually ate, every single dish tasted great and was plated with so much care that it honestly would've been fine even at a higher price hahaha.

On top of that, they say they don't use artificial seasoning, prepare seasonal table settings, and cook fresh food for guests every day. Maybe that's why each dish felt clean and refined.

How it was as a spot for family gatherings and sangyeonrye in Nowon
Sutgarak Bansang Masil seems like a solid choice whether you're looking for a place to take your parents in Nowon, a spot for family gatherings, or a Nowon sangyeonrye venue where atmosphere matters too. I got to try a wide variety of premium Korean dishes at a reasonable price, so I'm planning to come back again with my family :)
