Gyeongju fruit mochi shop where pineapple ranked first: Tareudang

🍓🍑🍍🥭🥝🍊 A date with my husband in Hwangnidang-gil is always fun! We were already full from lunch, but our eyes kept drifting to snacks anyway >..< So we walked the whole street, had ten-won bread and jjondegi (Korean taffy chips) one at a time, and picked up some Hwangnidang-gil fruit mochi — perfect as a snack for the kids too.

Hwangnidang-gil dessert spot, fruit mochi | Tareudang. I've had fruit mochi in other regions too, like Yeosu, and there's a bit of a difference here! Tareudang's fruit mochi has rice cake that stretches long like garaetteok (Korean rice cake). Inside, the combinations of red bean, cream, and cream cheese filling were different each time — really refreshing.

Where is Tareudang on Hwangnidang-gil?

Tareudang is a 1-minute walk from the Olive Young on Hwangnidang-gil in Gyeongju, at 49 Sajeong-ro, Gyeongju-si. The cute orange striped awning caught my eye right away.

(Yellow) On the main Hwangnidang-gil street, at the corner where the ten-won bread shops cluster, keep walking left past the Olive Young and you'll spot it!

Tareudang, the fruit mochi shop of Hwangnidang-gil. I hear fruit sando (fruit sandwiches) are trending here lately too... but I can't do an hour-long wait. Let's go with cream-filled mochi instead :~)

Tareudang prices and mochi menu

Tareudang's signature menu is the giant fruit mochi 🍓🍑🥝🥭🍍, with the fruit lineup changing by season. As of my September 14 visit, they had gold kiwi | peach | pineapple | fig | Dubai chocolate | mango.

I visited on a Monday at noon and got lucky — no wait for takeout. There was only one peach mochi left in the basket, so all I could think was 'buy it now!'

Q. What's the popular menu? A. Peach yogurt, mango yogurt. Thanks to that tip I ordered those two plus pineapple and fresh chocolate. 📌 I also grabbed the ₩500-off-per-piece deal for buying 4 or more mochi — nice and thrifty.

I thought this Hwangnidang-gil dessert spot only sold mochi, but ✅ they also sell tarts — worth noting.

Tareudang gives out a cooler bag for a receipt review. I got one~ Received the cooler bag from the review event. On a hot day like this, having something to keep things cool is essential, and getting one free just for a receipt review felt great!

I accidentally cracked the handle with too much force... but the cooler function itself was totally fine. Let's actually try the fruit mochi >_<

Even after an hour outdoors, the mochi stayed cool. Just looking at the wrapper colors, I could already guess which fruit was inside each one.

Inside the pineapple, mango and peach mochi: how they taste

First up, the Tareudang pineapple mochi. The moment I picked it up, I felt the heavy weight.

A nice two- or three-bite size, and I was so curious about the cross-section that I cut it in half with a knife...! This Hwangnidang-gil dessert spot's fruit mochi has chewy rice cake wrapped around sweet, juicy pineapple 🍍, cream, and red bean.

Now the popular mango mochi, yum. Filled with cream cheese cream, it opens with mango's sweetness and finishes with a savory, cheese-like note that was really appealing. 👍

My husband's pick, the peach mochi, made its appearance too! (It felt bigger than the other mochi...) Since it was the last one left, my expectations were already high.

Peachy peach 🍑 the cross-section really was so pretty, wasn't it? So pink I almost hated to eat it, so I even shaped a little heart with it >..< My personal ranking was pineapple > chocolate > peach > mango. Overall, the fruit was very sweet and the cream never felt greasy.
