Today I wanted to introduce a different kind of date spot I found in Konkuk!

Lately when my boyfriend and I go on dates, it's usually the same meal → café combo lol. So this time we decided to try something different and headed to a board game café! 🎲 I'd seen a lot of posts from other bloggers about board game cafés and wanted to try it myself, and I finally did haha. The place we visited was Nine One Board Game Café24! If you're looking for a board game café in Konkuk, this one's worth checking out.

What does Nine One Board Game Café24 look like inside?

My first impression walking into Nine One Board Game Café24 was how spacious and open the layout was! It's not fully separate rooms, but tables set up in an open space. Still, each table has a curtain you can draw when you want to focus on the game. It seemed good for groups of friends too, and worked well for us as a couple looking for an unusual date in Konkuk. 😊

There were blankets prepared near the seats too. When you sit in a café for a long time, the air conditioning can make it a bit chilly, so having a blanket to put over your lap was really handy haha. There were also guides posted around the store explaining how to use the games and the space, which made it easy for first-time visitors like us to figure things out.

How the 24-hour unstaffed entry and kiosk payment work

One of the standout features of Nine One Board Game Café24 is that it's run entirely unmanned! Payment is also self-service through a kiosk. There were signs explaining the 24-hour unmanned system on-site, so you can enjoy board games without worrying much about time. It's a spot that could catch the eye of anyone looking for a late-night, offbeat date place in Konkuk.

What snacks and drinks can you order at the café?

If you're at a board game café, you've got to snack a little while playing haha. Inside Nine One Board Game Café24 there were all kinds of drinks and snacks. We ordered Homerun Ball, Achim Haetsal, and iced tea to munch on while playing! 🥤

And this was my first time trying the salted milk flavor Homerun Ball! Personally, hmm... lol, it wasn't bad, but I still think the original flavor is tastier. Still, popping them one by one while playing made the time fly by 😂

Honestly, the biggest struggle at a board game café is that there are just too many games lol. When you first arrive you're like "so... what do we play?" But at Nine One, there were game recommendations listed by number of players! Since there were two of us, we referred to the two-person recommendations, and we ended up having a great time with the games listed there haha.

Two-player game pick: Lost Cities

The first game we picked was Lost Cities! Lost Cities is a card game for two people, where each player uses their cards to build several expedition routes. You place cards of the same color into your own expedition area, and the cards have to be placed in order from low numbers to high numbers. Explaining it like this probably doesn't make it super clear lol.

Since it was both our first time playing, at first we were just like "wait, what is this...?" lol, and carefully studied the rulebook. Luckily there was a rulebook and a QR guide, so we could check the rules as we went along.

Lost Cities comes with expedition cards and betting cards used in the game. In the base version, there are expedition cards numbered 2 to 10 and betting cards in each color, and before the game starts you shuffle the deck and each draw 8 cards. So we shuffled the cards diligently lol.

But as we played, I was like, wait... why aren't the cards I need showing up at all lol. Meanwhile my boyfriend seemed to have all the cards I needed piling up on his side... In the end, I lost. I accused him, "did you rig this somehow??" lol, but I guess it was just bad luck on my part 🥲

Still, for a first try it was really fun! It looks like a simple card-placement game, but you keep agonizing over which card to discard and which expedition to start, so a bit of competitive spirit crept in between us.

Two-player game pick: Yacht Dice

The second game we tried was Yacht Dice! It moves much faster than Lost Cities, so it was great when we wanted a quick, light round. You roll five dice, choose which ones to keep and lock in, then re-roll the rest — you can roll up to three times per turn. Using the resulting numbers, you build various scoring combinations.

It felt a bit like a gamble, needing some luck, plus the fun of quickly deciding which dice to keep. Most of all, since rounds go fast, it was perfect for "should we do just one more round?" lol. And the result?! This time I won. Hehe 😎 See, you should never end a game after just one round lol.
