Curly-root volume magic at a Cheomdan hair salon in Gwangju: Eomaek
In short
Eomaek Hair Project Cheomdan Branch is a hair salon in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju. The visit covered a volume magic straightening treatment for curly roots plus a layered cut: the roots that had been lifting and frizzing were smoothed down while crown volume was kept, exactly as agreed in the consultation. Worth booking a consultation at Eomaek Hair Project if you want natural volume magic that doesn't leave hair flat against the head.

My roots are so wavy that even a little bit of growth makes my hair look frizzy and unmanageable. Blow-drying it straight every day got tiring, so I figured I needed a volume magic perm. While looking for a hair salon in Cheomdan, I visited Eomaek Hair Project Cheomdan Branch. I got volume magic done, and I want to show you the before-and-after of how calm my wavy roots ended up looking.

Where is Eomaek Hair Project Cheomdan Branch, and where do you park?
Eomaek Hair Project Cheomdan Branch is on the 3rd floor of the building across from Tous Les Jours at Cheomdan Daerasu 5-cha.
If you're driving, parking matters too — you can use the building's 1st floor lot and the self-parking tower,

and there's also the Brown Dot Hotel outdoor parking lot, about a 2-minute walk from the salon. All three are free, which was convenient since you can just pick whichever has open spots.

A Gwangju salon interior that feels like a café
I found Eomaek Hair Project Cheomdan Branch while searching for a salon in Cheomdan, and it had this comfortable, café-like atmosphere.

I'd booked the volume magic appointment beforehand. I arrived a bit early, changed into a gown, and waited for a bit.

The interior was clean and tidy, and there was a little cafeteria area set up on one side where you could grab tea or a drink while waiting. They even brought me coffee, so I got to relax with a cup before the volume magic started haha.

Consultation on curly roots and crown volume
I sat down with the designer to talk through my hair's condition. Apparently Eomaek Hair Project Cheomdan Branch has been running for over 10 years, going back to when it was Park Seungchul Hair Cheomdan Branch, so a lot of clients come through referrals or keep coming back. Maybe that's why the consultation felt so thorough — she really examined the state of my hair before explaining what style would suit me and be easy to maintain.
You can see how curved my roots are in the photos, ugh. I've always had really wavy roots, so even a little growth makes it frizzy from the roots up, and even if I blow-dry it straight in the morning, the waves creep back by afternoon. So I told her I wanted the wavy roots calmed down, but without my hair ending up too flat and stuck to my head.
We decided to first trim the damaged ends with a layered cut and clean up the overall length and lines, then do volume magic in a way that would straighten the wavy roots while keeping the crown volume.
Layered cut and volume magic with damaged ends in mind
Since my hair was already a bit damaged, she added nourishing treatment along the way to minimize further damage. She applied the straightening solution while carefully checking my hair's condition, monitoring how it was progressing along the way.
After the shampoo, she started with the cut. She trimmed the damaged ends cleanly and shaped it into the layered cut I wanted, styled to be easy to manage.
After the cut, she did the volume magic. She straightened my hair strand by strand. Since my roots are especially wavy, she paid extra attention to straightening the roots underneath more carefully. I liked that she was so thorough even with the inner layers that aren't usually visible.
The finished curly-root volume magic: smooth but not flat
After the volume magic, the roots that used to puff up and look frizzy were calmly smoothed down, and my hair overall fell sleekly, looking neat and put-together. I'd been hoping for a natural-looking volume magic while searching for a Cheomdan hair salon, and it came out exactly the way I wanted — I love it haha.
My wavy roots always made styling such a hassle, and I never liked how volume magic could make hair look too flat and stuck-down. This time it came out with the natural feel I was hoping for, and I'm really satisfied. If you're dealing with severe wavy roots that make your hair look frizzy like mine, or you're looking for a natural volume magic, I'd recommend getting a consultation at Eomaek Hair Project Cheomdan Branch. Since my hair turned out so well this time, I'm planning to go back again once it grows out and needs another round.
