In short

Step off the main road near Hapjeong Station and into the alley, and the sky-blue exterior isn't hard to spot. The sign and facade give off a very authentic Italian vibe, haha.

Pizzeria O is the brand of chef Lee Jin-hyung, who won first place at the Rome Pizza World Cup. They apparently bake fermented dough in a wood-fired oven using traditional Neapolitan methods! I really love wood-fired pizza, and there aren't that many places in Korea doing it in a proper traditional oven, so I went in with high expectations!

Inside Pizzeria O: seating and whether it suits a group of four

Pizzeria O Hapjeong Station is mostly set up with 2–4 person tables. It looks like it can seat around 30 people, so a small group dinner would work fine too.

Pizza takes up most of the menu, and there's also a good variety of salads and pasta. The four of us ordered three menu items to share!

  • ✌️ Gorgonzola pizza
  • ✌️ Aglio e olio pasta
  • ✌️ Ragu pasta

🍕 Gorgonzola pizza: how chewy is the wood-fired dough?

This gorgonzola pizza has a strong cheese flavor. There's a huge amount of gorgonzola piled on.

The dough itself felt very well fermented! It was really chewy and had a nice bite.

Chewy gorgonzola pizza dough

With all that gorgonzola cheese piled on top, one bite gives you a mouthful of bread and cheese! Maybe because of how well it was fermented, my stomach didn't feel heavy even after several slices.

Dipping it in the honey they give you is the ultimate sweet-and-salty combo, I swear.

🍝 Aglio e olio: clean, simple and properly al dente

The aglio e olio had garlic, oil, pepperoncino, and cherry tomatoes in it.

Even with the pepperoncino, it was only slightly spicy, so overall it felt light.

Al dente noodles in the aglio e olio

The noodles had that al dente bite — thin noodles cooked exactly right like that isn't easy, and I could feel the chef's skill in it!

🍝 Ragu pasta: the favorite dish among the four of us

The ragu pasta is apparently a collaboration menu with Michelin-starred chef Junghyun Park.

There was plenty of meat, giving it a good chew! Personally, this ragu pasta was my favorite.

Is Pizzeria O Hapjeong Station worth it for Italian in Hapjeong?

Summing up my thoughts: first, I understood why they're famous for wood-fired pizza. The dough was so well fermented that the pizza was literally chewy through and through. The pasta also felt like it followed authentic Italian cooking methods. In short, it's a proper Western restaurant.

I'd highly recommend this to anyone near Hongdae or Hapjeong looking for real wood-fired pizza! This time I had gorgonzola, but next time I want to try the margherita 💕
