When a proper early-autumn weekend arrives with a gentle cool breeze, don't you suddenly crave the romance of an outdoor drinking spot—tilting back a cold draft beer beneath an open sky rather than sitting cooped up indoors? You know, that perfect day: taking it easy at a trendy café in the afternoon, then healing in the cool night air as the sun slowly sets.

Color Bunsik Rooftop in the Saemaeul Market alley
So this weekend, after leisurely stopping by a Jamsil café I had wanted to visit, I headed over to a popular outdoor-drinking spot in Jamsilsaenae to soak up rooftop season with my whole body! I visited Color Bunsik Rooftop, a mecca for bunsik (Korean snack foods) tucked deep in the lively alleyways of Saemaeul Traditional Market (Saemaeul Market), complete with a romantic rooftop. It wasn't a day when I had gone to watch baseball in person, but I could absolutely see why it has become a word-of-mouth Jamsil baseball-stadium favorite among people grabbing takeout or having post-game drinks. Haha.

A rooftop terrace made for the autumn breeze
If you pictured a cramped, no-frills snack shop in a market alley, think again~! Follow the stairs inside the building up to the top floor and there is a wonderfully open rooftop terrace, so romantic you can hardly believe you are in the middle of the city. Haha. Sitting at an outdoor table beneath softly glowing string lights with the autumn breeze blowing by, I thought there could hardly be a better weekend date course for couples.

Craft lagers at half price, even on weekends
Once we sat down and looked carefully through the menu, the craft-beer lineup was every bit as exciting as the bunsik dishes!!! And here is one essential, money-saving tip for your visit. Not only on weekdays but also on weekends, selected craft beer lineups are sold at an incredible 50% discount. That meant we could sample a range of high-quality craft beers at very reasonable prices. We ordered Heritage Brew Lager, Legacy House Lager, and Classic Reserve Lager, along with sundae (Korean blood sausage) and crisp fried squid for snacks.

First, we tasted the chilled craft lagers one by one, served in clear branded glasses. The creamy foam and refreshing fizz went down so smoothly that the week's fatigue felt completely washed away—what a thrill 𖤐 From the clean malty aroma of Heritage Brew Lager and the nutty-bodied Legacy House Lager to the richly flavored Classic Reserve Lager, each had its own charm, making it fun to choose between them.

Chewy sundae and crispy fried squid
After cleansing our palates with a sip of beer, the glossy sundae finally arrived at the table!! Color Bunsik is known not only for tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), but also as a truly great sundae spot—everyone in the know knows it. The glass-noodle sundae had an especially springy texture: its casing was not tough, and every bite became more deliciously chewy. With no off smell at all, it was mild and satisfyingly meaty; dipped lightly in salt and paired with beer, it was an absolutely perfect match. ❤︎

Then the generously sized fried squid arrived fresh from the fryer, steaming away—yum yum yum~ Rather than a thick, soggy coating, it had a thin, crispy batter that actually crackled, packed around plump whole pieces of squid.

The contrast between the crisp exterior and moist, chewy center was fantastic, and I immediately understood why so many people rave about this rooftop hot spot. And seriously, the weather was just too perfect—it was officially outdoor-drinking season..★
A place where you can enjoy the warm, familiar vibe of a traditional market alongside a trendy rooftop drinking spot: this weekend date was a huge success, haha. If you want to savor the feeling of the cool season with cold discounted beer and hearty, perfectly matched bunsik snacks, head to the distinctly charming Color Bunsik Rooftop in Jamsilsaenae and enjoy the flavor of rooftop season right now!
