After a hearty first round of meat with friends on the weekend, we headed out for a cool second-round pint at a bar that's been getting buzz lately. This is Ganppa Maekju Changwon Sangnam Hyeongje Branch, the Sangnam-dong spot in Changwon known for word-of-mouth-famous Sapporo draft beer.

It's right on the main shopping street in Sangnam-dong, so it was super easy to reach for a second round, and it had that distinct small-izakaya vibe you'd find in Japan. The biggest thing that sets this Sangnam-dong favorite apart? It's a standing bar — no chairs, you drink on your feet!

We went with three friends around 8pm on a Saturday, and you could feel that lively, buzzing standing-bar energy from the entrance — instantly puts you in the mood for a drink haha ^_^ The moment we stepped inside, what caught my eye was a seriously fancy-looking beer tap machine.

Thin glasses and thick foam: how staff pour Sapporo draft

Once we settled in, a friendly staff member gave us a really detailed rundown of the beer.

He warned us that the glasses were premium and super thin, so we had to be careful not to break them, and let us in on the secret that a just-right amount of foam on top really brings out the beer's aroma and flavor — hearing that only built up my expectations even more.

Without hesitation, we ordered three glasses of Sapporo draft that looked radiant even in color.

Here's the truly fascinating performance: after pouring the beer, the staff member dipped the glass into ice water to clean off any beer that dripped down the side, so it wouldn't get on our hands. I was totally touched by that level of care.

Taking a cool sip, the thin glass changed the whole feel against my lips, and the smooth foam plus the rich, distinctive Sapporo flavor had me saying it was insane.

We also ordered the chicken skin tempura set, and it was so crispy and salty that it paired perfectly with the cool Sapporo beer — my hand kept reaching for more.

5-second chug challenge and rock-paper-scissors: the free-drink games

Another huge draw of this place is that there's never a dull moment thanks to all the events and games!

One of my friends even took on the "chug a beer in 5 seconds" challenge, and she genuinely emptied the glass in 5 seconds flat, winning us a free beer. Watching from the side, it was hilarious haha.

There are also little betting game machines set up around the bar, perfect for friends to bet on who pays or who's buying the next round!

The staff are so upbeat, constantly chatting with guests and running all sorts of events — our table ended up playing a rock-paper-scissors win game with a staff member. I threw rock and won proudly, which got us an extra side dish on the house. They kept giving our table extras ^^ They wouldn't let us leave haha,,
