Asan brunch café open at 9:30am, Mediterranean pasta: When You Bite
In short
When You Bite is a brunch café in Handeul Mulbit City, Tangjeong, Asan, Chungnam, that opens at 9:30am. The writer gathered with friends early to share wedding invitations over Mediterranean Pasta 2.0, Signature Lasagna 2.1 and Egg Benedict 1.5, and the lasagna with its deep ragu sauce was the best of the three. When You Bite is an easy pick when you want to meet well before lunchtime and still take your time.

A menu you'd see at pretty much any brunch café, but the food itself turns out a bit different once it arrives. The menu items are familiar, but there's a genuinely European feel to them, and that's why I've already come back here for the n-th time.

Where is When You Bite, and what are the hours and parking?
When You Bite is a brunch café in Handeul Mulbit City in Tangjeong, Asan, Chungnam, and it opens at 9:30am. There's a public parking lot right next to the café, and plenty of roadside spots too.
I especially pick this place when I'm setting up an earlier meetup with friends, like a wedding-invite gathering!! Since it's a brunch café that opens from 9:30am, it's great for meeting up leisurely before lunchtime 💕

A genuine brunch spot open Wednesday through Sunday, 9:30am to 7pm. (Closed Mondays and Tuesdays.)

When You Bite's terrace and plant-filled interior
When You Bite also has outdoor terrace seating, but when I visited it was being used more as waiting seats than dining space, probably because of the heat. I'd love to try brunch out on the terrace on a nicer day haha.

Inside, it's got a sentimental interior mixed with lush green plants — a real plant-filled space. The ceilings are high so it never feels cramped, and the light is great too, so it's a Tangjeong spot that just makes you feel good the moment you sit down for brunch.

Great for dates or friend meetups, but I also spotted quite a few people coming in the morning to have brunch with family... a little envious, honestly.

On one side there's a display of various wines too, which would pair nicely with brunch if you wanted to make it feel a bit fancier.

How does brunch at When You Bite taste?
Atmosphere matters, but if you're ordering brunch and full meals, taste matters just as much, right?! This place doesn't fall short there either. When You Bite is run by a chef with 15 years of experience, so while the menu looks familiar, even the visuals are a bit different.

The Mediterranean pasta, lasagna, and egg Benedict I ordered all came out at once.

Mediterranean Pasta 2.0 — a light oil-based plate
First up, the Mediterranean pasta. It's an oil-based pasta with colorful tomatoes mixed in, topped with a whole piece of fish. The olive oil, tomato, and fish come together in that Mediterranean way, making it feel lighter and cleaner than a typical oil pasta.

Even though it's served warm, the tomato and fish make it almost look like a cold pasta visually. It had a light, salad-like quality to it too. Not a style I'd normally eat, but it really suited my taste~~!!

Signature Lasagna 2.1 — a deep, rich ragu sauce
The lasagna with the delicious ragu sauce, and honestly the dish I enjoyed the most. Between the layered lasagna sheets is a rich ragu sauce that's genuinely delicious. The meat felt like it was shredded along the grain, almost like braised beef, so you get that meaty texture along with the sauce.

The deep, rich ragu sauce was so good I nearly scraped the plate clean at the end. I found myself thinking this sauce would be great on risotto too...! I guess bold flavors really are what I love most haha.

Egg Benedict 1.5 — hollandaise sauce is the point
I tried the egg Benedict as more of a side. It's poached egg and bacon or ham on an English muffin, topped with hollandaise sauce. Just reading the description, it might remind you a little of a McDonald's McMuffin, right? Haha. But aside from the muffin, it's completely different.

Especially when you pop the poached egg and eat it together with the hollandaise sauce, it's soft and savory and works really well together. Personally, the hollandaise sauce was genuinely delicious.

Which gatherings suit When You Bite best?
With a nice atmosphere and good food, it works well for friend meetups, dates, or family brunch. Since it opens from 9:30am, it's especially great for meeting up a bit earlier than lunchtime and getting a head start on eating and hanging out. That was When You Bite, a Tangjeong, Asan brunch café with great atmosphere and a great menu 😆
