Bibim naengmyeon for three at Songgiwon, a Jinju cold noodle house
In short
Songgiwon Jinju Naengmyeon Direct Store is a Jinju naengmyeon (cold noodle) restaurant on Cheonsu-ro in Jinju, Gyeongnam, serving since 1992. Arriving just after the lunch rush meant no waiting, and the table shared three bowls of bibim naengmyeon (spicy mixed cold noodles) at 13,000 won each plus hanwoo yukjeon (pan-fried Korean beef) at 25,000 won with a mother-in-law and a child. The thinly fried hanwoo yukjeon was soft and clean-tasting, good both as a topping on the noodles and as a side dish with the leftover rice.

A Jinju naengmyeon (cold noodles) spot worth knowing — Songgiwon Jinju Naengmyeon, with a yukjeon (pan-fried beef) and cold noodle review. Located at 49 Cheonsu-ro, 1st floor, Jinju-si, Gyeongsangnam-do. Open daily 11:00 to 21:00, break time 16:00 to 17:00. Parking available, takeout available.

Hi, this is Tteonyurimam. No trip to Jinju is complete without Jinju naengmyeon — famous for being piled high with yukjeon. I went and had truly delicious yukjeon along with the Jinju cold noodles.

What kind of restaurant is Songgiwon Jinju Naengmyeon?
Parking is available, and this is the spot that appeared on the Jinju episode of Jeon Hyun-moo's Plan — the very place where the broth got "stolen" on the show, haha. Located in Songgiwon village, it's a naengmyeon institution that's been running since 1992.

No waiting when you arrive after the lunch rush
We visited the Songgiwon Jinju Naengmyeon Direct Store. There's usually a wait, but since we came a bit after lunch time, there was no line and we got seated right away. So great!

Seeing Jinju grandma after a while with Seonyul haha — the moment she saw her, she scooped her right up haha. It's been way too long since we visited grandma's place.

Songgiwon Jinju Naengmyeon menu and prices
The noodle menu is basically mul-naengmyeon (water noodles) ₩13,000, bibim-naengmyeon (mixed noodles) ₩13,000, large size +₩3,000, galbitang (short rib soup) ₩16,000, and yukjeon ₩25,000.

The broth was genuinely delicious — I had two cups, haha. We ordered three bibim-naengmyeon at ₩13,000 each and one yukjeon at ₩25,000! I went in expecting it to be amazing so I was starving — I skipped breakfast just to drive to Jinju for naengmyeon.

Songgiwon Jinju Naengmyeon is also running a Naver receipt review event — you can choose a drink, canned beer, or extra yukjeon topping. Don't miss out on that, haha.

Hanwoo yukjeon at 25,000 won: thin, soft Korean beef
The yukjeon finally arrived. It was thin, coated generously in egg wash. It was so soft, and being Korean beef (hanwoo), it had this clean, mild taste that was really delicious.

This was the best yukjeon I've ever had. Most naengmyeon restaurants in Jinju serve yukjeon — I had it elsewhere back when I was dating my husband — but Songgiwon Jinju Naengmyeon's version was so much softer and tastier. A lot of people were getting it to go too.
It pairs great with beer, and I think it'd go well with a glass of makgeolli too. Best makgeolli side dish, best plain rice side dish for the kids, best paired with naengmyeon — all-around best.

Yukjeon piled on top of the bibim naengmyeon
And then came the highlight — the bibim-naengmyeon. See all that yukjeon piled on top? It's absolutely loaded with yukjeon! Wrapping it with the noodles was such a great combo!

Yukjeon plus naengmyeon is the best combo, the very best. And eating it alongside the hot broth made the whole combination even better.

Dipping the yukjeon in the soy sauce they provided, haha — mother-in-law enjoyed it a lot too. Thinking naengmyeon is only for summer is a real mistake. Naengmyeon is a year-round love!
The sauce itself isn't sweet — it's clean and tangy-sweet, a flavor almost everyone can enjoy without much preference either way. It's not spicy, so kids who like naengmyeon will really enjoy it too!

How were the noodles, broth and pear topping?
Also, Jinju naengmyeon noodles are a bit thicker compared to other regions' naengmyeon. Even so, they weren't bland at all — the seasoning soaked in really well, so it was delicious. The egg was tasty too, and eating it with yukjeon doubled or tripled the flavor! My husband, eating it properly again after a while, really enjoyed it. On top, the pear topping was piled generously and sweet.

The toppings really are generous. Even without ordering yukjeon separately, the toppings alone are so plentiful that one bowl of naengmyeon would already feel like a full meal. But if you're a guy, I'd recommend getting the large size, haha.
Worth a stop if you are traveling in Jinju
Jinju means naengmyeon! If any of you are planning a Jinju trip, you absolutely have to try the naengmyeon — and definitely at Songgiwon Jinju Naengmyeon. The interior is clean, and everything from the hot broth to the kimchi was delicious — a flawless Jinju naengmyeon spot.

Finally, topping my daughter's leftover rice with yukjeon made for the ultimate rice thief, haha. Today's lunch was perfect, thanks to Jinju naengmyeon.
